About Kash With A K

Fence required Fostered in Pensacola Meet Kash with a K! Kash’s story started out rough… really rough. When we first said yes to pulling this giant goober from a north Alabama shelter, we knew he was emaciated and sick and that he had likely been hit and rolled by a car, as he had a knee injury that we were told needed continued medical care after the shelter's vet had tried to fix his leg surgically. What we didn’t know was just how bad things really were. Beneath the bandages was one of the worst surgical wounds we’ve ever seen, complete with old-school metal stitches our vet said looked like something from decades ago, a severe bone infection, and a leg that was essentially one giant gangrenous open wound. For two months, Kash has been on a strict regimen of heavy-duty antibiotics (the kind that required gloves to handle because apparently this dog likes to keep things medically dramatic), plus a double donut cone setup that made him look like a giant inflatable neck pillow display at an airport gift shop. The cones were necessary because Kash remained fully committed to making terrible life choices and trying to lick his leg anyway. And through all of it? He wagged his tail anyway. Seriously. This boy never stopped loving people. Now, after months of healing, Kash is officially ready to leave his medical saga behind and start the fun chapter of his life: being somebody’s ridiculously lovable best friend. At around two years old, Kash is equal parts athlete, class clown, and oversized frat boy roommate. He’s never met a stranger and genuinely believes every human exists solely to pet him. He’s fantastic with other dogs and absolutely thrives around them. Kash is what we lovingly call “a dog’s dog.” He wants to play, wrestle, zoom, body slam, chase, and generally act like an overgrown maniac with his canine friends. Because of his play style, he’d do best with another playful large breed dog or fellow Dane who can match his enthusiasm for full-contact fun. He’s currently living with three other Danes in his foster home and gets along beautifully with all of them. He’s also attended dog meetups and events where he’s been social, friendly, and wonderfully behaved. Kash has met children while out and about and has done great with them, too. We think he’d likely do well in a home with dane-savvy kids, but fair warning: this giant noodle occasionally forgets he weighs as much as a small refrigerator. Tiny toddlers could easily get accidentally bumped over during one of his enthusiastic “OMG HI BESTIE” moments. He’s potty trained, loves companionship, and despite everything he’s endured, has remained one of the happiest, sweetest souls imaginable. His foster dad works long hours, so Kash is accustomed to staying in an indoor walk-in kennel setup, though we aren’t yet sure how he’d feel about a traditional crate. More than anything, Kash deserves a family who sees him not as the dog from the horrific medical case, but as the goofy, joyful, resilient Dane he truly is. His knee may always look a little rough and he may have a slight hitch in his step, but Kash doesn’t let it slow him down one bit. Kash is neutered, vaccinated and chipped. Kash's adoption fee is $400. To read over the adoption requirements before applying to adopt Kash, go to nwflgdr.com/adopt. Please note: NWFLGDR does not transport. All approved adopters are required to pick up the dane in person from his/her foster parent.
