About Duchess
Duchess is a big, bouncy spirit who brings to mind those unforgettable dancing hippos from 'Fantasia.' Recently brought into rescue, she's impossible not to notice—her zest for life shows up as spurts of zoomies around the yard and joyful, full-hearted greetings for the people she loves. Duchess is learning to channel all that enthusiasm into better manners, including mastering the dog door, waiting patiently at mealtime, and taking her leash lessons in stride—though she sometimes can't help herself when excitement takes over. When the high-energy moments pause, Duchess wants nothing more than gentle praise, affectionate pets, and reminders of how lovely she is. Thanks to her size and goofy gusto, Duchess is best matched to a home with teenagers or adults, not little kids. She needs a sturdy, at least six-foot fenced yard where she can burn off her energy in a safe space. She's lived respectfully with the resident indoor cat but does show an urge to chase strays outside, so a cat-free home or one where the cat can have a separate, secure space would set her up to thrive. Duchess gets along easily with other big dogs of both sexes in her foster home. She is about 4–5 years old, spayed, heartworm negative, and up to date on vaccinations. Duchess is being fostered in Mobile, AL, but is listed for adoption in Pensacola, FL. Approved adopters need to pick her up in person. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
