What are you waiting for? Apply today! Shaggy is currently being fostered in Pace, FL, and is a remarkable 7 to 8-year-old Great Dane with a laid-back personality and a loving spirit. After years of neglect, he arrived at the rescue alongside his companion Hershey and has settled into home life seamlessly, as if he was always meant for comfort and companionship. He is the perfect housemate, gentle and easygoing with people of all ages, including children, and truly shines in the company of other dogs, whether they're large, small, young, or confident alphas. Shaggy's social nature makes him a joy to have around, and he greets everyone like an old friend. Around the house, Shaggy is equally content to lounge on the couch or relax by your side, displaying his deeply affectionate side with sweet gestures like resting his head on your shoulder. While his personality tends to be calm, he still enjoys playful bursts—like his morning zoomies—and sometimes outpaces even younger pups. Shaggy is house trained and has impeccable manners. He roams freely without causing trouble and is not destructive or mischievous. With easy access to a doggie door, he maintains perfect house habits, drinking plenty of water and needing frequent trips outside—yet, no accidents as long as this routine is kept. He listens well, knows basic commands (come, stay, no), walks beautifully on leash, and has excellent recall—even stopping mid-chase if called, which includes his calm curiosity about outdoor cats. He's trustworthy, polite, and comfortable in supervised outdoor spaces. Age has brought a few minor issues: joint stiffness, a hygroma, and increased drinking and urination, with occasional leakage while sleeping. All medical tests have been clear, and these quirks are easily managed with washable covers. Shaggy isn't food-aggressive, but like most dogs, prefers to dine without interruption; he only ever growls if startled awake or approached while eating. Shaggy thrives in a home with companionship, whether it's another friendly dog or humans around often—he simply loves having company. He remains relaxed and happy, never displaying severe separation anxiety, and offers the ideal blend of calm and a touch of fun. At about 115 pounds, this heartworm-negative, microchipped, neutered, and fully vaccinated senior is ready for his next chapter. If you want a steady, sweet, and truly loving best friend who brings both relaxation and moments of joy, Shaggy could be your perfect match. Please note that approved adopters must pick up Shaggy in person from his foster home—transportation is not provided. This could be the start of something paw-some.
