About Duke

Duke is an approximately 80-pound, six-year-old neutered male German Shepherd Dog with a medium coat who thrives on interaction and play. He’s a friendly, energetic presence, always eager to meet new people both at home and when out and about. Duke genuinely enjoys the company of children, though his exuberance may be too much for very small kids. He’s great with dogs, especially small breeds he lives with now, but may need some time to warm up to unfamiliar dogs. Cats are not a match for Duke, and he should not live with them. Duke is house trained, though he's primarily been an outdoor dog and does his best with regular outdoor access—he can get restless if kept inside for too long. Once he burns off some excitement, he settles nicely on leash, and although he hasn’t had formal obedience training, he listens well when not too distracted. He loves games of fetch and keep-away, but isn't a fan of water. Car rides still make him restless; he hasn't had much practice. Duke’s original adopter is rehoming him due to concerns he may accidentally injure a relative recovering from surgery, given his high energy. Duke is up to date with his vaccinations and is microchipped. He is currently in Galt, CA, seeking a new home that can match his playful spirit and give him the activity he needs.
