About Gaara

Meet Gaara (ACCT-A-250135), a sweet and happy fellow who is ready to find his forever home! Gaara is a true people-person who greets everyone he meets with a wagging tail and plenty of affection. He is a social butterfly who has previously lived in a home where he was known to be a "loves-everyone" kind of guy, especially when it comes to adults, teenagers, and children. In his previous home, Gaara was a loyal companion for many years. While he is currently dealing with some skin sensitivities that have caused some temporary hair loss, he is just as handsome as ever on the inside! With a consistent routine and some TLC for his allergies, Gaara is sure to get back to feeling his best. Gaara is looking for a home where he can be the center of attention. While he has lived with other pets before, he can be selective with his four-legged friends, so he would appreciate a family that understands his personal space. He also experiences some separation anxiety, so a home where he can feel secure and comforted would be the perfect match. If you're looking for a friendly, social, and loving companion who is always happy to see you, Gaara is waiting to meet you! Stood up slowly with a loose body and soft eyes, approached the front of the kennel when I made kissing noises and called his name. Leash Skills: backed up slightly the first time I showed him the leash, then stood still and was easy to secure. Minimal pulling throughout the kennel and outside, peed immediately. Sociability: loose and wiggly in the yard, solicited lots of attention. Jumped a few times and was easily deterred by turning my back. Happy to sniff around on his own, then return for scritches. He allowed handling all over, including on his bad skin/light touching on the parts that were scabbed over. Rolled over for belly rubs and took high value treats gently. Gave a few light "pibble nibbles" when giving kisses. Play: chased a toy briefly, did not possess Dog Interaction: good sniffs with Mason through the fence. Loose body, disengaged after a few sniffs. Return to Kennel: easy to return Color Level: gold Recommendations and considerations: On 5/14 staff noted: "I took Gaara out for a dog meet. Gaara was sleeping soundly when I came to his kennel. I called his name and he woke up and came to the kennel door with soft eyes, wagging his tail. I leashed him with ease and he walked nicely through the kennels. He pulled slightly, especially when he other dogs or people that he wanted to interact with. He saw Boots and they were initially face to face sniffing with neutral reactions. We redirected both dogs attentions and allowed them to sniff each other. Gaara sniffed politely with loose body, low wagging tail. He would get a little stiff when Boots neared his face (which may be attributed to the swelling on his face). Gaara went to mount Boots , I gave gentle leash pressure and called him over. He leaned into me for pets, and looked up at me. Very sweet boy! He walked well back to his kennel and was easy to return." On 5/14 staff noted: "Sweet and happy boy! Gaara solicited attention with a happy wagging tail" ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
