About Ham

Her name in the shelter was Clarabelle, but everyone calls her Ham—her playful, round body is pure comedy to watch, and the name just suits. Ham is about 10 and came into Philly’s animal control under rough circumstances: fresh out of a stressful, unstable situation, actively lactating, with bite wounds and pressure sores. Despite her bad start and a near-fatal case of pneumonia in the shelter, Ham pulled through thanks to her foster's quick action and resilient spirit. Since December 2024, she's had a true turnaround. Physically, she’s bounced back: leaner, healed, enthusiastic about life, and always ready for zoomies—or to burrow into a warm blanket for a nap. Social with people and always happy to meet someone new, Ham lights up any room. She isn’t currently living with kids, but would probably thrive around older children who understand the energy of a wiggly, affectionate pittie. Her humor and goofiness are impossible to ignore—she’s genuinely hilarious, and she invites you to laugh with her. Ham is living with other animals right now, but she would be happiest as the only pet. She doesn’t want to share her living space with other dogs and is too interested (in that pushy terrier way) in smaller animals. She’s spent much of her life with little autonomy, and she deserves a retirement where the spotlight is hers alone. Quiet neighborhoods, a sunny yard to sprawl, slow park strolls: that’s her ideal. Ham has some arthritis from a past knee injury, but it doesn’t slow her down much. She’d do well on ongoing joint supplements and might need pain management down the line. She has occasional skin allergies—easily kept in check with allergy medication and the occasional medicated bath. She’s recently had dental work and lump removals and is fully vetted, spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. And yes: she’s house trained. Time to let this funny, gentle soul enjoy the easy life she deserves. Click apply and let the tail-wagging begin!
