About Crystal

Fostered In: Chehalis, WA Adoption Fee: $100 Vaccines: DAPP, Lepto, Bordetella, Rabies Spayed, Microchipped, Dewormed, Treated for Fleas Crystal has spent her entire life searching for a place to truly belong. Before rescue, she was surviving as a stray. Then she sat in an overcrowded Oregon shelter as just another unwanted dog, eventually ending up on the euthanasia list simply because there was no more space. In November of 2022, when Crystal was estimated to be only around 9 months old, her story almost ended before she had ever even gotten the chance to experience what having a family felt like. We had originally traveled to pull different dogs, but after arriving we learned one of those dogs had already been adopted. Shelter staff showed us a list of other dogs still urgently needing help, and something about Crystal immediately stood out. The moment they brought her out of the kennel, she bounded straight into our laps, covering us in kisses with her entire body wiggling in excitement. Despite everything she had been through, she was still full of joy, affection, and hope. Crystal remained in foster care with us for multiple years, and when we opened our own rescue, Lewis County Canine Company, we asked for Crystal to officially transfer into our care because we already knew her so well and were deeply committed to continuing to help her succeed. Crystal is a very active Lab/Pit mix with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. Like many dogs with difficult pasts, she came into rescue struggling with significant separation anxiety and difficulty regulating her excitement levels. Over the years she has made incredible progress in foster care, but she will still need a home committed to understanding her needs and continuing the structure and routines that help her thrive. One of the biggest things we have learned about Crystal is that she does best with another playful dog her size. She absolutely loves having a canine companion to wrestle, run, and play with for hours. In the past, when left bored or under-stimulated, Crystal would sometimes jump the fence looking for people or fun. However, with a dog friend and proper outlets for her energy, she has not attempted to jump the fence in well over a year. Crystal thrives with routine and structure. She is crate trained and genuinely views her crate as her safe space. When she becomes overstimulated or anxious, she settles quickly in her crate and happily sleeps there every night. Her foster home also uses structured downtime, enrichment toys, chew bones, and occasional leash guidance indoors to help her regulate her excitement and maintain calm behaviors in the house. Crystal has come a very long way with these routines and will need a home willing to continue them. While Crystal is energetic and playful outside, inside she is an affectionate cuddle bug who loves attention more than anything. She adores kisses, pets, treats, snuggling, and being told she is a good girl. She is smart, food motivated, and enjoys Kong toys, enrichment activities, and anything that keeps her busy. Beneath all the energy is a dog who truly just wants connection and love. Crystal walks well on leash when using the tools she has been trained with and enjoys getting out for walks and adventures. Due to her strength and enthusiasm, she will need an adopter comfortable continuing her training and handling. Because of her high prey drive, Crystal cannot be placed in a home with small animals including cats, small dogs, rabbits, chickens, or similar pets. We also recommend a home without very small children simply because she can become overly excited and accidentally knock them over. Crystal has now spent over 3 years in rescue waiting for someone willing to see past her imperfections and recognize the incredible dog she is. She may come with some baggage, but she is resilient, loving, loyal, and endlessly affectionate. She deserves a family willing to continue guiding her, advocating for her, and loving her for exactly who she is.
