About Odie
Odie is a 4-year-old black Rottweiler mix seeking a loving home where he can feel secure and understood. His early days were challenging; found as a puppy on the side of the road, he spent his formative years with one devoted person. This rocky start has left him with some anxiety and fear, which he's actively working to overcome. Odie is neutered, house trained, and currently on medication to help with his anxiety. While he can be nervous around new people, once he forms a bond, he is incredibly loyal and affectionate. He has been wonderful with the family's baby and is gentle around her. Older, dog-savvy kids would likely be a good fit. Odie enjoys playing and knows commands like sit, speak, and shake, and he truly aims to please. However, he does not do well with cats. Odie sometimes exhibits protective behavior, especially around his mom, and can bark or growl at unfamiliar faces. He also experiences anxiety in a crate, preferring the comfort of a single room. When left alone, he does best with monitored access to ensure he feels secure. Since the arrival of a new baby, stress has been a factor for Odie. A more structured environment would greatly assist him. He needs a patient, experienced owner who understands fear-based behaviors and can provide guidance without overwhelming him. Odie is full of potential and just needs the right person to help him navigate the world in a safe and supportive way. He’s currently in Zuni, VA, but can be transported for adoption, possibly with a fee. If you think you could be the right fit for Odie, he would be thrilled to meet you. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.
