AvailableNicot is a young, neutered male Shepherd mix with a short coat, currently located in Zuni, VA. He is house trained, vaccinated, and weighs about 35 pounds. About Nicot
Nicot is a 2-year-old black and tan Shepherd mix who needs a home with real experience handling dogs who are fearful or borderline feral. Skittish around people, he finds confidence and comfort in the company of other dogs—he relies on canine companions for guidance. He thrives with cats as well, but humans who wish to work with him must be extremely patient and willing to move at his pace. Nicot is a true flight risk and needs an adopter who is committed to slow decompression and understands the importance of secure containment. While he will calmly crate overnight, new situations overwhelm him, and walks alone won’t satisfy his need for mental engagement. If he’s not stimulated with a job or advanced structure, he’s likely to become destructive. Nicot cannot live with young children, but might settle with older, dog-savvy teens who respect his need for space. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, house trained, and weighs about 35 pounds. While he is not comfortable on a leash, he does bond deeply with stable, mellow dogs. If you are experienced, over 21, genuinely understanding of dogs with a feral background, and can offer structure, patience, and a compatible canine friend, Nicot might finally find comfort in your home. He’s currently fostered in Hampton, VA, but transport can be arranged for approved adopters. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!

Questions about Nicot
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Nicot, as a Shepherd mix, does best in a calm home with plenty of structure and at least one other confident dog. He needs experienced handlers who understand anxious or feral-leaning dogs and can provide a secure, predictable environment.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Shepherd mixes like Nicot benefit from a safe and securely fenced yard where they can relax without pressure. His flight risk means careful containment is essential.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Nicot's Shepherd mix background can do well with older, dog-savvy children, but he is too fearful for homes with young kids. Quiet teens who respect animal boundaries are a better match.
