Milo: 2.5 - 3 Year Black Lab Mix, Neutered Male, 78 lbs Background: Milo and two of his siblings found themselves at the Contra Costa County Animal Shelter close to two years ago. The female was reported to be the most timid amongst the three; we think she was picked up by another rescue. Milo and Roro were pulled by their current fosters through general guidance from a group of rescue volunteers who network dogs in need. Milo and Roro made their way to Golden Gate Lab Rescue through the same group of rescue volunteers, asking for assistance. We went out and met/evaluated Milo and Roro at their current foster home and are happy to be able to welcome them and their fosters to Golden Gate Lab Rescue. Milo and Roro can be adopted separately, or together. What Milo's Foster Says: Milo is the more dominant one. In the early days he would correct Roro's behavior. Milo is the bigger brother strong, handsome, and full of heart. He is generally on the calmer side, but he still has a playful, goofy personality that makes him so lovable. He enjoys teasing his foster parents in the sweetest way, asking for belly rubs, and showing off his charming personality once he feels comfortable. Milo loves going on walks and hikes, and he enjoys being outside with his humans. He also likes soaking up the sun in the backyard, wrestling with his brother, and chasing squirrels when they dare to enter his space. Even though he enjoys activity, Milo also equally enjoys his alone time, quiet naps, and relaxing in his cozy spot. Milo is very food motivated, which makes him highly trainable and eager to learn. He already knows commands like sit, stay, and wait, and he listens well when treats are involved. He responds best to gentle structure, patience, and positive reinforcement. At home, Milo is a total love bug. He loves sitting next to his humans, asking for pets, and giving those irresistible hungry puppy eyes when someone is eating nearby. He enjoys sitting on the couch with you, but if told no a few times, he understands not to jump on the furniture. Milo sleeps comfortably on his bed inside his crate. His crate is usually left open, and he goes in and out throughout the day and night as he pleases. His humans only close it when guests are around. Milo is also a great little alert system and will proudly let you know when packages or guests arrive. He enjoys car rides with the window halfway open and his head out, while safely secured by his leash in the car seat. He may bark or whine at dogs passing by during car rides, but that is part of his curious and excited personality. Milo would thrive with someone who can give him love, walks, hikes, belly rubs, treats, calm structure, and cozy nap time. Show him affection, and he will love you with his whole heart. What Lab Rescue Says: Milo and Roho were assessed and evaluated separately. Both dogs appear healthy and at a good weight. Not overweight. You can tell they're brushed, their coats are nice, shiny and soft. Their foster family consists of two parents and their children aged 12 and 16. They were both excited, happy, and jumping around their foster parents, very excited when their foster mom walked up to us. We met in the parking lot of a school park. Large green open space with a walking path surrounding it. Lacrosse game, whistles, kids running, people walking by, kids on bikes, strollers. Both dogs did great walking, not bothered by bikes, kids, or people. We stepped aside to allow others to pass. Both dogs were calm- no barking, no jumping while we were handling and walking through more populated areas. Milo is larger, fuller, probably 80-85 lbs. More confident. More active in walking. Foster was able to handle him. Did well when bikes, people, strollers passed by. Listened well, Jumped a few times when stopped but easily corrected. Once I took over, he was fine, did not look back for fosters, walked well on short leash, easy corrections if needed, did not pull. Did well with food, no resource guarding. Treat motivated and sat for them. Not interested in toys or balls. Curious if thrown, would go up to them but not sure what to do with them. Knows sit and lay down. When he began to notice his people were not around, he became disinterested in our interactions because he was looking for them. There was one dog on leash in the park, we did far away walk bys. He saw the dog, tracked it and was curious. He didn't bark or pull towards the other dog. We sat with him for a while. He was calm, sat, and laid down. When brought back to the fosters, he knew where they were, whined, barked with excitement to get close, and became jumpier. Medical Information: Milo is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and microchipped.
