AvailableAbout Roro
Roro: 2.5 - 3 Year Black Lab Mix, Neutered Male, 70 lbs Roro and two of his siblings found themselves at the Contra Costa County animal shelter close to two years ago. The female was reported to be the most timid amongst the three; we think she was picked up by another rescue. Roro and Milo were pulled by their current fosters through general guidance from a group of rescue volunteers who network dogs in need. Roro and Milo made their way to Golden Gate Lab Rescue through the same group of rescue volunteers, asking for assistance. We went out and met/evaluated Roro and Milo at their current foster home and are happy to be able to welcome them and their fosters into Golden Gate Lab Rescue. Roro and Milo can be adopted separately, or together. What Roro's Foster Says: In the early days, Milo's brother would correct Roro's behavior. Roro is more timid around new people. Roro will come up and put his head on their laps and snuggle. Roro is the smaller brother, but he has a big personality and the cutest puppy face. He is curious, energetic, affectionate, and always interested in what is happening around him. He loves exploring, watching birds, and keeping a very serious eye on the squirrels in the backyard. Roro loves going on walks and hikes, and he also enjoys jogging when his human brother takes him for a run. He is active and playful, but he is also incredibly loving. He loves cuddles and often comes to his foster parents looking for love, pets, and affection. When he wants attention, he may gently paw at you for belly rubs or snuggle up beside you. Roro is a bit shy with strangers at first, but once he feels safe and comfortable, his sweet and loving personality comes out. He bonds closely with his people and enjoys being near them. He loves car rides and enjoys sitting by the window with his head out of a half-open window while safely secured by his leash in the car seat. He may bark or whine when he sees dogs passing by during car rides, but it comes from curiosity and excitement. Roro also loves wrestling with his brother, chasing squirrels, and spending time in the backyard. He knows a few basic commands like sit, stay, and wait, and he responds well to gentle guidance. He enjoys sitting on the couch with his humans, but if told no a few times, he understands not to jump on the furniture. Roro sleeps comfortably on his bed inside his crate. His crate is usually left open, and he goes in and out throughout the day and night as he pleases. His humans only close it when guests are around. Roro would do best with someone who enjoys an energetic, curious, affectionate dog who loves walks, hikes, car rides, cuddles, and being part of the family. Once he trusts you, he will come to you for love and give his whole heart right back. What Lab Rescue Says: Milo and Roro were assessed and evaluated separately. Both dogs appear healthy and at a good weight. Not overweight. You can tell they're brushed, their coats are nice, shiny and soft. Foster family consists of two parents and their children aged 12 and 16.. They were both excited, happy, and jumping around their foster parents, very excited when their foster mom walked up to us. We met in the parking lot of a school park. Large green open space with a walking path surrounding it. Lacrosse game, whistles, kids running, people walking by, kids on bikes, strollers. Both dogs did great walking, not bothered by bikes, kids, or people. We stepped aside to allow others to pass, both dogs were calm, no barking, no jumping while we were handling and walking through more populated areas. Roro is the smaller one of the two, approximately 70lbs, leaner. More timid of the two. Walked well with fosters, sniffed along the way, meandering when in front. Did not stop frequently to mark. Stopped when foster stopped, no strong pulling. We all walked as a pack. I walked up front near Roro, no problem. Once separated from his fosters and solely with me, he walked well at my side on a short leash, looked back frequently for his people. He was concerned looking for his person but walked very well. Stopped when I stopped. Was not bothered by whistles, people's loudness, or claps. Encouraged with treats. He liked treats and sat well for them. No food guarding at all, initally noise from shaking the metal dish caught him off guard, once he knew it was yummy food, he was interested. Treat and food motivated but not interested in toys or balls. Squeaker surprised him. Did well with handling and petting. Not super excitable. Allowed me to touch him all over, legs, paws, ears, face, mouth. He flinched when I went to side hug him, but I was adjusting my foot over the leash and I think that freaked him out a bit. He would benefit with some continued basic training. He may be slower to warm up but is very sweet. Did not seem fearful, just concerned with where his people were located. We think Roro would do better living with another dog in the household. He hasn't been around young children and since he is on the timid side, he'd probably do better in an adult only home, or one with older teens like his current human foster siblings Medical Information: Roro is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and heartworm tested. Roro is located in: Danville If you are interested in Roro, please contact Rescue Rep Kris at krisellen.nm@gmail.com In your email, please tell me about yourself and why you would be a good fit for Roro.
