Five 5-month-old yellow Lab mix puppies Background. The Lake County shelter recently took in these puppies... They allegedly came from some backyard breeder up in the mountains -- NFI. Good grief! They are now in our foster homes and ready for adoption. Three females (Rosie, Maggie, and Sadie) and two males (Chance and Tahoe). Two of the sweetest girls ever. Don’t let their sometimes-stern faces deter you, you couldn’t find a better couple of puppies to love and be loved. The minute they came into our house, they just wanted to give kisses and be with us. While they do have their own distinct personalities, they are equally loving and sweet. They are very bonded, sleep together, play together and get along amazingly, but they also do well with our 2 Labs. With our 6-year-old Lab they are respectful and kiss his face. He was the one to welcome them and show them the ropes at his house. Our 1-year-old Lab has been rough and tumble with them and they take it in stride. One enjoys it more than the other, but they both go back for more. We have play off and on all day, but mid day is definitely rest time. They sleep great, almost completely through the night. Sometimes we get up at 5:30am and go take care of business and then go back to bed. Often they just sleep on the dog bed next to my bed when I’m not ready to start the day yet. Unlike most puppies I’ve had or fostered, they settle right back down and let me sleep. They are close to being potty trained - may have an accident when they are very nervous as they did when they first arrived. After the second day here, we haven’t had any more issues. They are learning commands and will sit for food and treats. We are working on recall and since we are only at home, it hasn’t been much of a challenge as they know I often have treats or they are following the other dogs. They love carrots and frozen mango as well as the traditional dog treats. They are crate trained and also get along with our cats who have trained them to not get too close. We have had kids (about 10 years old) around and they absolutely loved them. They like playing tug of war & chase with each other and enjoy being outside sunbathing as well as with us wherever we are. Whoever gets these girls is going to be incredibly lucky to get such sweet and loving companions. Rainbow Rosie: She is the shyest of the two although not when she is used to her new surroundings. She initially followed her sister everywhere but now she is confident and knows what she wants. She is the most playful and likes to play hard with our young Lab. Even so, when she is asked to calm down and go inside she has no issues doing that. Sadie: Not as hard charging, but doesn’t shy away from play. She just gets away from it when she wants a break, but then heads back in when she is ready. She is more exploratory and found a place to get out of our yard, which none of the other puppies here ever have. However, she came right back when I called her and we have since fixed the issue. What Chance's foster says. Chance is doing amazing!!! Chance is a gentle giant! Living at our house he has been wonderful with our older dog who is 7.5, very much so submissive to her and follows her lead on what to do. He is gentle and loving to my two kids (ages 6 and 4). He loves to cuddle and enjoys a soft place to lay down. He has been doing well in his crate while we are away and has minimal accidents inside. He follows our dog well on a leash but doesn’t quite understand it on his own. He is a puppy so he needs lots of direction on what not to chew! Chance will make an incredible companion! What Tahoe's foster says. Tahoe is an adorable, loving pup who is friendly with everyone he meets. He’s very food motivated and easily trainable, and he’s already picking up routines well. He’s playful and goofy, and he enjoys games and interactive time. He also has a calm side and likes to sunbathe and relax during the day. He’s currently learning to be comfortable in his crate when left alone and is making steady progress. He does best with a balance of activity and downtime. Overall, Tahoe is a social, adaptable dog who is full of love and joy. What Maggie's foster says. This sweet girl is the definition of a cuddle bug—if you sit down, she’ll be right in your lap in seconds, gazing up at you with those irresistible puppy eyes and sneaking in a few gentle kisses. She has a calm, affectionate nature and clearly loves being close to her people. Since arriving, she’s been fully house trained with no accidents, which is a huge win for her future family. She’s also making great progress with crate training and typically only needs one quick potty break overnight. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has had a blast playing in the yard, especially when there’s a good game of chase involved. She’s curious, playful, and brings a joyful energy to everything she does. On the training front, she’s already learned basic commands like sit and down, and she’s showing real promise picking up fun tricks like spin and roll over—she’s eager to learn and loves positive attention. She also seems to fancy herself a “gardener’s assistant,” happily joining in on yard work—whether that’s pulling weeds, chewing on sticks or attempting to dig a hole (a work in progress!). With her loving personality, smarts, and playful spirit, she’s going to make an incredibly loyal and fun companion. What their Rescue Rep says. What an awesome group of puppies. We want the puppies to go to homes where the people are around a lot. Would be fine in homes with another (adult) dog and children. Adopting a young puppy is much like having a newborn baby in the home: very demanding for care and attention. Young puppies quickly grow up and become big rowdy juveniles that need lots of exercise and structure and patience from their humans.
