He arrived at Cobb Animal Services as a stray on May 26th, and the shelter environment has left this little guy frightened and overwhelmed. He sits quietly in the corner of his kennel, taking up as little space as possible — but that is not who Rusty is. That is just a scared little dog in a scary place. The moment Rusty got outside, everything changed. He was excited, he walked beautifully on leash, he stayed right by his volunteer's side, and he loved every moment of being petted. That is the real Rusty — a sweet, loving, people-oriented little boy who simply needs a calm and gentle environment to let his guard down and show the world who he truly is. There is something deeply rewarding about being the person a scared dog finally trusts. The moment Rusty realizes he is safe — really, truly safe — and comes out of his shell for good, is a moment that will stay with whoever witnesses it for the rest of their life. He is already showing glimpses of it. He just needs someone patient enough to give him the space and time to get there. Rusty is precious, he is gentle, and he is so ready to be loved.
