AvailableAbout Scrap Iron
Meet Scrap Iron (ACCT-A-248937)! This big, lovable fellow is the ultimate "house hippo." Weighing in at a sturdy 80 pounds, Scrap Iron is a gentle giant who has proven himself to be a total cuddle bug. Scrap Iron is already a pro at home life; he is fully housebroken and crate trained. While he has plenty of enthusiasm for life, his friends describe him as having a mellow, lower energy level that makes him the perfect companion for lounging around the house or joining you to run errands. He recently went on a day trip where he enjoyed sniffing around the park, playing fetch, and even treating himself to a pup cup! This handsome guy is as polite as he is sweet. He has been described as "gentle and dainty" when meeting other dogs and is incredibly tolerant. On his outings, he has remained perfectly calm and respectful when meeting children and has even shown he can completely ignore other dogs barking at him. Scrap Iron takes just a moment to warm up, but once he trusts you, he is all about the affection. He loves giving kisses and will happily climb into your lap for a snuggle. If you're looking for a curious, mellow, and kiss-giving buddy to join your family, Scrap Iron is ready to meet you! Pulled Hard Yes, I handled the dog. Enjoyed butt rubs Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue Sweet disposition but strong on leash Per volunteer 5/3: He is a great dog! He has a lower energy level. He is sooo handsome. I think he would make a great house hippo, and I think he would be a great family dog. Not much interested in other dogs, or treats, either. He can pull on the leash if he wants to. He would make a great buddy to have around the house and run errands with! Per staff 5/2: Scrap Iron was waiting in the adoptions lobby after his day trip. The person who took him out let young children come up to say hi and he was perfectly calm and respectful. They also said when they had him out on his walk he completely ignored a chihuahua that was barking at him. We also walked a couple small dogs by him while he was waiting and he stayed laying down calmly. Could do well with cats, dogs, kids. Per day trip 5/2: Philly Pupventures Report Card: We went to Hunting Park! Played fetch, sniffed around and enjoyed the sunshine. Afterwards on way back to ACCT we got a pup cup! 3 / 5 energy level. Very comfortable in new surroundings. No reaction to other animals in passing. He was definitely interested in people and bikes, but stayed calm, did not make movement towards them. Just looked at them as they passed! He was most interested in bikes. Pulls a little especially when excited. When calmed down, walks nicely on leash. Took treats very gently after he started to trust me. Initally, did not take treats but did as he warmed up. Responds to sit. Once Scrap trusted me, he was a cuddle bug! He loved laying on me (even at 80 lbs) and he loved giving kisses! Scrap Iron is mellow, curious and gentle. He showed to be good with kids and all people. He takes a second to warm up but once he does he is all about the cuddles! Per staff 5/1: Kennel Presentation: Presented upright, relaxed at front of kennel, mid wags. Looped easily. Leash Skills: Pulled minimally. Sociability: Mostly focused on sniffing around in the play yard, but after relieving himself, began to pay more attention to handlers. Tolerated all handling, lots of mid-level wags. Per prior note on walksheet, enjoyed back scratches. Play: Showed interest in several toys, but didn't take possession. Dog Interaction: Positive playgroup earlier in the day; remained curious about dogs passing by the play yard. Return to Kennel: No issues, hopped right in. Color Level: Green Per staff 5/1, playgroup: Barely steerable with spray bottle (1/5) not with shake can (0/5). Mid-wags toward Denzo at the gate. Relaxed. Slow entry, sniffing independently. High wags while being greeted by Sweet Tea & Denzo. Generally gentle/dainty. Very tolerant of repeated mounting attempts from Benson. Per staff 5/1: Assessed in playgroup - very gentle demeanor. Incredibly tolerant of rough and rowdy playstyle. Handler motivated. Per owner surrender notes 4/28: Owner had Scrap Iron for four years. Surrendering due to move to no-pets housing. Scrap Iron is fully housetrained and crate trained. Lived indoors. High energy. When asked how he reacts towards dogs, cats, strangers, and children, the owner wrote "yes". - ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
