About Pattie

Meet Pattie (ACCT-A-249460)! Pattie is an approximately 4-year-old pit bull terrier who came to us after she was found in the park by a concerned member of the community. While in the shelter, Pattie has been scared and overwhelmed. In spite of her fear, however, Pattie has tolerated handling from shelter staff and given us glimpses of the sweet, loyal dog underneath all the nerves. Pattie needs a calm, quiet home and a patient adopter who will be willing to work with her on confidence and help her blossom into a happy, comfortable dog! Video Playgroup 5/5: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcnvoGYrJkIYrHnIwPNdP9IXaWddldXAK Behavior Per volunteer 5/8/26: Pattie was in the back of her kennel when I approached and settled back a little more as I opened the door. After tossing treats, she came forward and took 2 from my hand. She was leashed and calmly walked outside. Pattie peed quickly once outside. Her tail was tucked early in so we went into a medium sized run with toys. Pattie sniffed some toys and also the yard. Her movement was slower and her tail was still a little tucked but more relaxed. Another volunteer joined us and she approached them for treats & sniffs. Pattie climbed up on the bench 2x and sat very briefly next to me. She showed no interest in treats while outside. Pattie tolerated soft pets along her head and back and also butt scratches. Pattie calmly walked back inside, passing another dog with no reactivity but to look at the dog. She entered her kennel on her own and took several treats. After her time outside, Pattie was up in front of her kennel several times when I walked by- her cute little head barely being seen above the kennel door. 05/06: Waiver: Fearful Behavior Waiver ACCT Philly has noted the following behavior(s) with this pet. Behaviors may have been observed in a shelter setting or in a previous home. ACCT Philly cannot guarantee the behavior of any pet after they have been adopted and adopters are strongly encouraged to take the process of integrating their new pet slowly. Behavior(s) Noted This dog has demonstrated fearful behavior towards volunteers and staff at ACCT Philly. This animal was evaluated by ACCT Philly and deemed fit for adoption but may become fearful if disturbed or put into extremely stressful environments. If the animal does show a pattern of fearful behavior or fear based aggression, ACCT Philly recommends working with a certified veterinary behaviorist or professional trainer who specializes in these type of behaviors. 05/06 Kennel Presentation: At the back of her kennel, wide eyes, trembling, ears forward. Slowly came forward for a treat and took it with ears back, soft wide eyes, trembling, tucked tail. Leash Skills: Used a treat lure to leash, once leashed she slowly came out, low to the ground, tense body, eyes darting, ears back, tucked tail, pulled mildly. Sociability: In the yard she was trembling, wide eyes, ears rotating between forward and back, tightly tucked tail, tense body. Would retreat when people walked past the yard, eyes darting, trembling, tightly tucked tail. Was not eating treats outside. Allowed all handling with the same body language. Remained by my side when I stopped petting her. Play: Sniffed toys, no interest. Dog Interaction: n/a Return to Kennel: Pulled mildly walking back low to the ground, ears back, tucked tail, wide eyes. Hopped right into her kennel and her leash was removed easily. Once back in kennel I offered her another treat which she took with ears forward, softer eyes. Color Level: Blue 05/05: Presented with a high level of fear and remained shut down throughout the duration of my interaction. Upon approach, displayed clear signs of stress, including low tail carriage, ears held upward/back, and a lowered body posture. Movements were slow, cautious, and hesitant, especially during the transition from the van to the kennels. Showed no signs of overt aggression such as growling, lunging, or snapping. However, body language indicated they were extremely uncomfortable and unsure of surroundings. Appeared to be in a heightened state of fear, choosing to remain withdrawn rather than engage. Due to fearful and shut-down state, dog will require a slow, patient, and low-pressure approach during future handling. It is recommended to allow time to decompress and avoid sudden movements or forced interactions, as this could escalate stress levels. -- ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
