About Three
Three ACCT-A-246659 is a 1-year-old male that came in as an owner surrender due to moving on 4/2. Owner noted that he is "hyper & high energy. He barks at strangers & other dogs, plays with children, and chases cats. He's a good dog and loving." BEHAVIORAL: Per staff on 4/4: "Steer test: 5/5 with water. Slow entry into the yard. Avoidant of interactions, another dog came up and he ran away from them. Stayed near the fence line and sat down." Per staff 4/4: "Kennel Presentation: In the back part of his kennel when I approached. Wide eyes, tail down not moving and ears to the side. I tossed a few treats to see if he would come up to the front of the kennel. He sniffed for the treats, however did not cross over the middle of the kennel. I went around to the back side where he was and he came up to the front with wide/soft eyes and mid tail slowly wagging. I offered a treat and he took it gently. Leash Skills: He moved slightly back when I opened the door to attempt to leash. I used a treat lure to lure him through the leash. He came out slowly and then mildly pulled in the kennel on our way out. Sociability: Asocial. Took treats hesitantly when I offered them from my hand, started tossing them on the ground. When I reached out my hand he jumped back and ran to the end of the leash. Did not continue to try to handle. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Pulled mildly in the direction of dogs out in the yard, barking. Met Chase at the fence, tense body ears to the side and high tail. Then did a big play bow and bounced away. Return to Kennel: He pulled towards other dogs kennels barking. I already had the stopper up and when I clipped the leash he did whip his head around quickly. He went right into his kennel and I was able to slip the leash off." Per staff 4/3: "Supervisor assisted nurse to remove Three from kennel. When they approached, he remained on the farthest side of the kennel with high wagging tail, hard barking, and ears forward. Easy to leash because he froze. While walking through the kennels, his body was tense, with tail tucked and continuously looking back at both handlers. He pulled slightly when they arrived at the double doors separating kennels from medical hallway. Once in surgery, his tail remained tucked and he sniffed the area. As they applied a muzzle, his body tensed up and he slightly crouched down. While being induced with sedation, he remained frozen and allowed an easy removal of the muzzle. The handlers began 'baby talking' and his tail was low with wags. He was aloof and alert until sedated." Per staff on 4/2: "Very anxious. Was hard bark and had a hard time walking to dog intake however it did not seem like aggressive behavior. Was able to walk to intake once double leashed & owner left. Put on eval" MEDICAL: On 4/6, Three was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) and started on medication. Per intake exam on 4/3, Three was in good condition and is bright, alert, and responsive.
