About Leah

Leah is an 11-pound bundle of personality who somehow manages to be equal parts fearless explorer and professional cuddle bug. This 1-year-old Chihuahua/Terrier/Shepherd mix made her way to NYC from Tijuana and is now settling into life in Brooklyn with her foster family. Leah is playful, affectionate, and full of spunky charm. She loves zooming around with her toys, tackling treat puzzles, and then rewarding herself with a cozy cuddle session. When the excitement winds down, she's happiest curled up close to her people—often perched on a lap or snuggled into bed. Her favorite companions (besides humans) are her beloved stuffies, especially her armadillo and hedgehog toys. Leah is a smart young pup who enjoys learning and is already doing well with “sit.” She's currently working on other commands like “come” and “stay.” Like many dogs adjusting to a new environment, she is still working on house training and is practicing with a combination of pee pads and frequent outdoor walks. Leah loves going for walks and is excited to get outside and explore the neighborhood. She's confident on leash but is still working on her manners—she tends to pull and can be very vocal when she sees other dogs, barking and wanting to confront them. With guidance, structure, and continued training, she has great potential to improve her leash skills and reactions. At home, Leah is affectionate and enjoys being close to her people. She has had only limited time alone so far but is doing well adjusting to short periods in the crate when her foster family needs to step out. Leah would thrive with an active family that can provide both playtime and cozy downtime. She may do best as the only dog, where she can soak up all the love, or with a calm, confident adult dog who can help guide her energetic personality. Because she is still working on some behavioral training, Leah would do best in a home without children for now. With patience, continued training, and lots of love, Leah is sure to grow into an incredibly loyal, entertaining, and snuggly companion. Vaccinated for Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella. Neutered and microchipped. Tested for vector-borne illnesses. Current on flea, tick, and heart worm prevention. To apply to adopt Leah, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for a foster application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available. Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue. Questions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org
