About Pepe
Hi, I'm Pepe! I'm a 2-year-old, 12-pound chihuahua mix who recently made the trip from Tijuana to NYC! I'm a pretty affectionate little guy. I love head pets, cuddles, and being close to my people. If you stop petting me, I might gently nudge your hand with my nose to politely ask for more. I don't mind being held or picked up, I might even fall asleep in your arms. My foster parents say I'm like a little house elf because I magically appear beside them and quietly follow them from room to room. I just like to know what you're up to. Right now, I'm living in Brooklyn with my foster family, and I've been adjusting well, even with all the loud city noises! I've settled into their routine very quickly, and go potty outside like a pro. I will even wait by the door to let you know if I really need to go. I'm a smart pup and food motivated, which makes learning fun. I'm already getting the hang of “sit” and I'm eager to keep learning more. On walks, I'm a pretty good gentleman on the leash. I don't pull and when we pass other dogs on the sidewalk I usually just ignore them or can be easily redirected. I'm currently working on “leave it” when it comes to all the tasty things on the street, apparently New York pizza crust isn't for dogs? At night I sleep quietly in my crate and I'll even hang out in there during the day to relax. I'm still working on feeling confident when left alone, so my future family should be ready to help me keep building my independence. The good news is I make an excellent work-from-home companion, I'm very happy curling up beside you while you're in meetings or typing away. I'd do best in an adult-only home while I keep working on sharing my toys, as I am working on my boundaries. My foster family says that can be common during a dog's decompression period and as I settle in more this behavior may improve with time and training. I'm hoping to find a medium-active home that enjoys walks outside just as much as cozy movie nights in. Whatever you're doing, I'm happiest just being near you. I could happily live as a solo dog, but I might also enjoy a calm dog sibling too, as long as they are respectful of my boundaries. If you're looking for a loving, loyal little pup who will be your best friend and tiny shadow, I might just be your guy! Vaccinated for Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella. Neutered and microchipped. Tested for vector-borne illnesses. Current on flea, tick, and heart worm prevention. To apply to adopt Pepe, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application.
