About Gala

📌 Important Information • All of our dogs are currently in foster homes in Mexico 🇲🇽. They are listed as being in Sherwood, Oregon because that is where our rescue is officially based for adoption purposes. • To keep our dogs safe and reduce unnecessary stress, we only fly dogs to Oregon once we have an approved adopter. ✈️ After approval, we coordinate the flight directly to Portland (PDX), with your new family member typically arriving within 2–4 weeks. 💛 About The Meximutt Project (A Born Again Pit Bull Rescue initiative) Over 18 million dogs live on Mexico’s streets. Our organization works at the source through rescue, spay/neuter programs, and adoption into loving Oregon homes. Since 2019: 🐶 460+ dogs adopted • ✂️ 3,500+ dogs spayed/neutered 👉 Interested in adopting? PLEASE FILL OUT APPLICATION AT www.bapbr.org ⚠️ We’re unable to respond to requests that come through Petfinder ************************** 🐾 Meet GALA 🐾 • AGE: ~ 4-5 months old • WEIGHT: ~17 lbs • BREED(S): Belgian Shepherd mix (our best guess since they’re rescues!) • GOOD WITH KIDS? Yes, but please keep in mind that they must be taught to respect the dog’s space, belongings, and food. • HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As a dog rescued off the street and currently living outdoors or in foster homes with tile surfaces, they'll need some time to be 100% housebroken. Most of our dogs adapt to a potty routine within 1-2 weeks with consistent training. Gala and her sister Kira were found locked in a terreno—an empty lot—with no food, no water, and two aggressive pit bulls that kept them cornered and terrified. According to a neighbor, someone had found them abandoned on the highway and dumped them in that lot, left to whatever fate awaited them. When their rescuer arrived and opened the gate, both puppies ran straight to her. "They were so thin and scared," she says. "But they were also so affectionate. They just wanted someone to care." That was a few months ago. Since then, Gala has blossomed into a sweet, social, surprisingly calm puppy—especially for a Belgian Shepherd mix. Gala has that classic shepherd intelligence and alertness, balanced with a gentle nature. She'll race around with other dogs, wrestle and tumble and burn off energy, then settle down for a nap without needing constant stimulation. She's playful when it's playtime, calm when it's time to rest. She's a bit shy at first with new people—she'll observe quietly, take her time to read you. But she warms up quickly, and is incredibly social and affectionate. She loves being part of family activities, just happy to be included. Gala is wonderful with other dogs and great with kids. She's smart—you can see her working things out, learning routines, figuring out what's expected of her. With consistent training, she'd excel. Belgian Shepherds are known for their trainability and devotion, and Gala has both in spades. What Gala needs is an active family who can give her daily exercise and mental stimulation, but who also appreciates her calmer, more balanced temperament. She'd do well with another dog to play with or as an only dog getting all the attention. She needs structure, training, and a family committed to helping her become the best version of herself. After being dumped on a highway, after being locked up hungry and scared—Gala deserves a home where she's valued, where her sweet nature is cherished, where she can finally just be a loved family dog. Are you ready for a smart, balanced, affectionate companion who'll grow into a devoted partner—the kind of dog who'll be by your side for every adventure, big or small? ************************* 📝 Ready to apply?
