About Cherry

Cherry has spent most of her time in the spotlight as a devoted mom—she came to the rescue from a crowded situation near the Virginia mountains, bringing ten robust puppies into the world right after she arrived. Her roots connect with a few other Great Pyrenees rescued at the same time, and, as it turns out, she and two other girls are almost certainly sisters. Now, Cherry is the last adult left, patiently waiting for her chance at a loving home. Life at the rescue has been full of surprises for Cherry. She and her fellow mom, Shenandoah, gave birth the same week, keeping the volunteers thoroughly occupied. Through all the chaos, Cherry thrived, thanks to tons of pampering and nightly companionship to help her care for her puppies. Now, she’s bonded with Gandolph, a shy male Great Pyrenees, and the two share a daily routine outdoors. Cherry does best with gentle male dogs and needs a proper meet-and-greet before moving in with any new canine companion; she prefers not to share her space with other females. There’s a bit of diva energy in her (in the best way), and she has a voice—expect a welcome choir of barks when newcomers approach. For Cherry, a securely fenced yard is a must, and she’ll thrive best in a home that understands the independent, protective nature of the breed. Cherry is currently in Richmond, VA, and would love to meet families willing to travel within a few hours’ drive. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!

Questions about Cherry

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Cherry, as a Great Pyrenees, excels in suburban or rural environments with ample space and a securely fenced yard. This breed is traditionally used for livestock guarding and enjoys environments where they can roam and watch over their territory.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Great Pyrenees like Cherry need a large, securely fenced outdoor area. They are happiest when they have space to move freely and patrol, so an apartment or small yard isn’t ideal for them.
