Ernie is a white and cream Great Pyrenees with a signature mohawk and a large, impressive frame. He’s a neutered adult male who’s house trained and fully up to date on vaccinations. Located in Richmond, VA, Ernie does well with other dogs and is seeking a family that values his independence and respects his need for space.

About Ernie

Ernie turns heads with his unmistakable mohawk—a quirky family trait he and his siblings wear with pride. He came to AGPR from a hoarding case called "March Madness," was adopted in 2020, and returned in 2022 after COVID upended his family’s life. Through it all, he’s kept his gentle spirit and need for personal space. Ernie does best with people who respect his boundaries; he’s far more comfortable around women and can be nervous if approached abruptly, especially by men. He shares his space peacefully with his best friend Darcy and would likely enjoy the company of a friendly female dog. Kids may be okay as long as they understand and honor Ernie’s need for a little room. He isn’t looking to change who he is—especially not his mohawk—after weathering upheaval in his past. A fenced yard is a must for him, like any Great Pyrenees, and he’s happy to wait for the right local family who appreciates his particular ways and values his comfort above all else.
