He was a bit jumpy while we were dining. We took turns walking him while the other had lunch. He was also a bit restless when asked to stay at a place for a long time. -Where did you go, and would you recommend it to others? Why or why not? We visited Rittenhouse Square, and I highly recommend it for Brown Butter. The spacious area allows him to explore comfortably. Since the dogs there are leashed, it's an excellent opportunity for him to socialize. -How was the dog's energy level throughout the trip? 3 / 5 -How was the dog in the car? We had to lift him into the car but once inside he was pretty calm. -How comfortable was the dog in new surroundings? Very comfortable -How did the dog react seeing other animals in passing (cats, dogs, squirrels, birds, etc.)? When he sees other dogs, he wants to interact with them. When given a chance to interact he was very calm. -How did the dog react seeing people, such as runners, bikers, or children? He used to watch them attentively but did not run towards them. -Describe the dog's leash manners: Walks nicely. No leash biting. -How did the dog take treats? Mostly not interested. He does not seem to be food motivated. But whenever he took treats, he was very gentle. -Favorite moment from day trip? By the end of the trip he was tired and slept cutely on my lap on the journey back to the shelter. Per Volunteer 5/25/2026: Greeted me at his kennel with a wiggly body and loose body language overall. I very easily leashed him and he hopped right out of the kennel and walked very nicely on leash. In the play yard he was shy for the first little while where he didn't seek out attention too much. He also isn't very treat motivated. He didn't take them from me. After a few minutes, he became very affectionate and liked to jump up in my lap and take pets all over with a very wiggly body! Very nice manners and pretty laid-back in the play yard today. Super cuddly boy and and most interested in cuddles over anything else. Not interested in toys or treats. Met multiple new handles in your office with a loose body. Very sweet boy and just needed a bit of leash pressure to go back into kennel. Dog Meet 5/24/2026: High wagging tail, ears back, hackles raised, interested in sniffing, pulled towards Nate when he moved away. High energy, pulling on leash, very interested in a dog in the play yard. During walk along, Brown Butter continued to pull towards Nate. When they sniffed, Brown Butter was tense, with his hackles raised, but moved towards Nate to continue the interaction when Nate disengaged. Behavior Eval 5/23/2026: Kennel Presentation: Brown Butter was loose and wiggly when I approached his kennel. He had soft eyes and a high wagging tail. He put his paws up on the kennel door and jumped down when I attempted to open the door. He allowed me to slip the leash over his head easily and came out of his kennel without issue. Leash Skills: Brown Butter followed easily through the kennels and only pulled minimally, following redirection from his handler. Sociability: Brown Butter is very handler oriented and allowed pets and handling all over. He approached other volunteers to solicit pets and seemed open to meeting strangers Play: Brown Butter was interested in playing with his handler and showed minimal interest in playing with toys in the play yard. Dog Interaction: Brown Butter had two good off-leash dog meets with Cassidy and Molly Polly. He is very tolerant of more pushing dogs and also respectful of dogs who are more reserved Return to Kennel: Brown Butter returned to his kennel with ease and was easy to unleash.
