Charlie was rescued from the home of a "recluse", with years of matted fur acting like casts all over his little 9 lb. body. He was a trooper through the sometimes painful, hours-long shave that revealed some horrific conditions. Because of his condition, we are unsure of his breeds and colors. Poodle? Maltese? Shih Tzu? White? White and tan? Medium hair? Long hair? Curly hair? His family wasn't even sure of his age, but guessed maybe 7-8 yrs old. He is missing part of his right front leg, but hops around fairly well. What we are sure of, is that Charlie is a grab bag of sweetness, resilience and forgiveness, even after being neglected for years. He does okay in a crate, but insisted on sleeping with his foster mom his first night in rescue. He is a little timid with new people, but loves to be held and will settle in a warm lap and give kisses within minutes. He is good with dogs, cats and people. He would be okay with older children. Details on his condition (some may be disturbing): *10% of his body weight was matted fur *Head was so full of flea dirt (feces) that the grooming clippers could not get through it. *His 2-inch tail had 7+ inches of matted fur hanging from it. *Rear leg has deep laceration due to mats cutting into it. It is being treated. *Right front paw necrotized (died) and fell off into the matted fur encasing his leg. (xrays of the mat confirmed it). *Last photo is how he arrived to rescue. WE ONLY ADOPT WITHIN A 2 HOUR RADIUS OF THE TRICOUNTY AREA. ***Exceptions may be made for seniors or hard to place dogs. If the animal is under the age of 3 years old or has health issues, a vet reference is required, which means you must own a pet or have owned a pet in your name. ADOPTION FEE of $410 covers all vetting including spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, microchip, heartworm test and treatment if needed, and any other medical that may be required while in rescue. Please do not ask us to reduce adoption fees since all fees help us cover medical expenses for all of our animals, some of which can be very expensive. Saving lives is not cheap, so thank you for understanding and helping us save as many as possible. We only do adoptions on Saturday, and not all animals are able to attend. If you would like to see a specific animal, please let us know via email and we will try to accommodate. However, we cannot guarantee the animal will be at the event without an approved application.
