Meet Chauncey, a 6.5-year-old Corgi with short legs, soulful eyes, and a heart that’s still learning how to feel safe. Weighing 34 pounds, Chauncey is a quiet, sensitive boy who takes his time getting comfortable in new situations, but each day he grows a little braver. Chauncey came into rescue understandably scared and unsure of the world around him. He’s the kind of dog who watches first, processes carefully, and slowly builds trust at his own pace. His foster mom says he’s already improving every day, and with patience and consistency, she believes his personality will continue to blossom. While he may be timid with people right now, Chauncey does very well with other dogs and seems to find comfort in their presence. He’s been great with both big and small dogs, male and female alike. A calm canine companion in his forever home could help him continue building confidence. Chauncey is crate trained and stays in his crate while his foster is at work, but when it’s time to relax, he prefers having the freedom to snooze wherever he pleases around the house. He’s nearly house trained and has only had a few accidents while adjusting to his new environment. One place where Chauncey’s confidence really shines is outside. He loves spending time in the yard, exploring, sniffing around, and trotting through the grass on his little corgi legs. Because he enjoys outdoor time so much, a securely fenced yard is required for him. He also walks nicely on leash and continues gaining confidence with gentle guidance. Chauncey is looking for a patient adopter who understands that trust is something earned, not rushed. He may not be the dog who barrels into your lap on day one, but for the person willing to give him time, there’s something incredibly rewarding about watching a shy dog slowly discover comfort, safety, and love. Sometimes the quietest dogs have the most beautiful transformations. Chauncey is still becoming himself, and his future family will get to be part of that journey. His minimum adoption fee is $400 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
