About Louie
Louie is a 13 to 15-year-old, 11-pound Chihuahua who carries himself with a quiet independence. Despite his age, he's still lively now and then—one of his favorite things is cruising around the yard for "happy laps," especially after a meal or a satisfying nap. While Louie started out shy and withdrawn after losing his longtime home, in his foster care he's been peeling back the layers to reveal a bit more spunk each day. He recently discovered a gentle interest in toys and shows off his joyful side when the mood strikes. Louie gets along just fine with respectful dogs who give him his space, but doesn’t look for playmates. Mainly, he’s content as a peaceful companion who prefers napping nearby over being a lap dog. He thrives best in calm, low-key homes, ideally with adults. Louie enjoys being near his person but isn’t clingy. He’s house-trained, will stand by the door when he needs out, and has the routine down well—only having accidents if left without a timely potty break. Louie loves yard time, leisurely exploring or sniffing, and would be happiest in a home with a secure outdoor area. He does fine with short walks but doesn’t rely on them for happiness. While a good boy in most situations, Louie gets anxious on car rides and is more at ease relaxing at home. Louie is managing stage 2 kidney disease with a prescription diet and does best with regular potty breaks and plenty of water. He’s had some dental intervention and needs a soft diet due to an oronasal fistula, but it doesn’t slow him down or bother him right now. His vision and hearing are fading, but he navigates the house and yard well—especially if treats or the backyard door are involved. Louie wants a quiet, all-adult home with people who appreciate a sweet, senior dog who enjoys independence as much as gentle affection. What are you waiting for? Apply today!
