Sara is a friendly, quiet kitty with an independent spirit and a love for adventure. She is a curious and cautious explorer who is a bit shy and not overly social, but enjoys playtime and visits from the shelter's volunteers. Sara is especially happy when there is something to climb - high perches, beams, and even lofty framework are favorite hangouts. From up above, she likes to observe the world and feel safe taking everything in. When it’s playtime, Sara has no problem sharing the play space with other shelter kitties. She waits patiently until the time is right, and then goes all-in on feather wands and other toys. When playtime is over Sara is very content finding a quiet spot to bask in the sun. She gets along wonderfully with other cats and has a calm, respectful presence in the adoption room. Lately Sara has been observed comforting some of our new arrivals who are quite timid and welcome a feline friend. Sara can be a bit cautious with new people. She is not the type of cat to demand attention right away, but once trust is earned she will slowly warm up and show her softer side. Petting is on her own terms and comes with time, but the bond that develops is truly special. Once she gains your trust she will gladly lick from a hand held squeeze-up. Dedicated socializers at Safe Haven have worked with Sara over many hours to prepare her for adoption. It should be noted that she was not always a shy kitty. When Sara first came to the shelter she showed her loving side right away, welcoming pets and happily coming close to say hello. Since moving to a busy room with many cats and volunteers coming and going, she has become more reserved. The extra activity can be a bit overwhelming for her. We feel confident that when Sara moves to a quiet home environment her affectionate nature will shine again. Sara would do best in a quiet home with adults and older kids who can provide daily interactive play and plenty of companionship. She requires someone who is willing to invest a little time in the socialization process. Like all cats coming from a shelter there is an adjustment period, and Sara needs just a bit of patience and understanding, allowing her to blossom and become comfortable in her forever home.
