About Ken Aka Jack
What are you waiting for? Apply today! Jack, once known as Ken from the Barbie Litter, has a remarkable story of resilience and hope. He was born in a shack on Mexico’s coast, amidst harsh conditions, but thanks to the kindness of caring volunteers with Surfers for Strays, his life turned around. After overcoming many obstacles, including a tough start and the loss of some of his siblings, Jack found safety, love, and nurturing. Volunteers provided food, medicine, and a safe space, and gradually, Jack blossomed with their support and affection. After relocating to the main shelter, Jack thrived—building friendships with dogs and people alike, and mastering basic training. He even experienced life in the U.S. with an adoptive family. Jack was unfortunately diagnosed with hip dysplasia, and when his adoptive home couldn't continue his care, Surfers for Strays once again stepped up. They ensured Jack received advanced treatment, including a femoral head ostectomy, so he could live pain-free. Now, Jack is back with his human and dog friends, enjoying long walks, playtime, and lots of cuddles. He's affectionately known as “Sweet Uncle Jack” because of his gentle, patient nature and love for other pups. Jack absolutely adores people—he’s polite, affectionate, and sleeps close by his favorite humans, showering them with nuzzles and face licks. He’s crate-trained, housebroken, knows his commands, and has lovely manners around food. Jack enjoys walks with time for sniffing, and is happy relaxing or being playful; his energy is just right for most families. He would love another friendly dog in the home or regular opportunities for social play, and he’s described as a truly “good boy” with a joyful spirit. Born June 5, Jack is a social, cuddly Gemini—known for their adaptable and loving personalities! If you’re ready to welcome a loyal, gentle companion who has overcome adversity with a wagging tail, Jack could be the forever friend you’ve been seeking. They are waiting with paws crossed!
