About Anise

If you get a kick out of figuring out personalities with a few twists and turns, anise should be right up your alley. She started life in an outdoor cat colony, so skittish behaviors come naturally—when she first arrived, she was so underweight the rescue thought she was still a kitten. A trip to the vet and some time indoors revealed she was older, just petite and scrappy. Adjusting to an inside life wasn’t easy for her. The team kept her in, worried about her survival outdoors, and spent months working on trust. Tiny steps—a head bump to a backscratcher, eventually accepting short pets, showed how far she was willing to come if you meet her where she is. She’s still wary and is quick to retreat when things get overwhelming, and sometimes responds to too much petting with a little swat or nip. You’ll need to watch her cues and give her breaks when she asks for them. Despite her guarded side, anise is curious and likes to be involved in daily routines. She often emerges first at mealtimes and seeks out the company of other cats. She rubs on nearby objects (just out of arm’s reach) and gravitates toward her favorite safe zones—the cat tree and familiar corners. She needs a patient adopter, ideally someone in an adult-only home who respects her space and reads cat body language, and another friendly cat around to help her continue to learn the ropes. She is spayed, fully vetted, microchipped, and healthy. What are you waiting for? Apply today!
