Rex (fka Maui) is an adorable 6-month old male Pit Bull Terrier (possible Boxer) mix who was brought to the HSOV on December 21, 2024 after he was picked up on Second Street in Lower Salem Ohio along with his mother (Pua RN Loretta) and his little sister (Angel fka Moana). None of this adorable trio were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. This handsome little boy has a white-and-brown/brindle short smooth coat, a long tail, and a cute (rather mischievous-looking) symmetrically-marked white/brindle face with dark brown eyes, and large semi-erect ears. Rex has a happy, outgoing personality and is full of playful puppy energy. Rex and his sister Angel had their photos taken on the afternoon of December 21st in the Receiving area of the shelter where they were avidly watching the HSOV cats in their cages (and being very vocal). Rex appeared to be the 'ring leader' with little sister Angel being the 'backup'. We aren't sure that we'd trust Rex or Angel to be nice to the kitties. Rex weighed 34 lbs that day. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Rex was held for 14 days since his owner was identified. Rex and Angel's mother (Loretta) was reclaimed, but the puppies were surrendered to HSOV. Rex went home with a foster family on January 15, 2025 who planned to adopt him after he was neutered. But unfortunately Rex was returned to HSOV on February 5, 2025 through no fault of his own. His foster family's scheduled wasn't working out and they were heartbroken when they came to the conclusion that they didn't have time for a family dog at this time. They loved Rex and made the difficult decision to return him so that he would have an opportunity to find the perfect home with someone who had more time to spend with him. Rex was neutered on February 17, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. These updated photos of Rex were taken on February 23, 2025 when HSOV Manager Tracy Lynn spent time with him in the lobby of shelter for his 'big boy' pictures. Rex was cute as a tiny puppy but he is simply magnificent as a young 8-month old youngster. Rex still has a happy, playful personality, and he loves attention. Rex made the most of his 15-minutes of fame and thoroughly enjoyed being the center of attention. Rex would love to find an individual or family with an active lifestyle to give him the attention and playtime/activity level that he enjoys so much. Rex does not accept cats into his circle of friends, so he needs to find a home where he would have no contact with feline friends. Update: Rex went home with a foster family on February 25, 2025 who plans to adopt him if all goes well. Rex was returned by his tearful foster family on July 6, 2025 because (after several months of their best efforts to introduce and to facilitate a good relationship), Rex never got along with the family's other dog. Rex displayed dominant behavior and was the wanna-be alpha dog. Rex is looking for a home where he could be an 'only child'.
