Joey is looking for a patient and experienced owner who understands timid dogs, and he thrives best in a home without children.

About Joey

Joey is a charming 7-year-old male Maltese/Yorkie mix, weighing around 10 pounds. He came from a breeding situation where he didn’t get the same care and socialization as a typical house pet, making him a bit shy with people. Progress has been gradual, but he's formed a bond with his foster mom, following her around, especially in the kitchen. Though he isn’t keen on being picked up, he enjoys being lifted carefully from under his belly. Joey has a playful spirit, especially when frolicking with other small dogs in his foster home. He has learned some independence and even hops up onto furniture and snuggles on his foster's bed at night. However, a secure and adult-only home is essential, as Joey needs a companionable and friendly small dog to thrive. Consistent potty training has been achieved; he signals when he needs to go out but also uses a pee pad if necessary. Care should be taken to ensure he gets out every four hours. Grooming is necessary every 6-8 weeks due to matting, and he can be sensitive to brushing, so a skilled groomer is a must. Joey is neutered and up to date on vaccinations, including distemper and rabies.
