About Sammy
Sammy is a sweet, sensitive "Velcro" boy looking for a loving home where he can receive the undivided attention he craves. After the unexpected passing of his previous owner, he found himself at a South Texas shelter, which must have been very confusing. Although the shelter lists him as 10 years old, a friend from his past believes he’s 13. Regardless, his foster parent's veterinarian says he acts like a youthful 10-year-old pup. Sammy loves his daily walks and is ready for adventures. He’s an affectionate companion who thrives on closeness and cuddles. This remarkable boy is known as a "silent" companion since he communicates with adorable vocalizations rather than barking. It appears his vocal cords were cut in the past, but that doesn’t dampen his spirit. He’s quick to train, described by his foster dad as the fastest Setter to learn new commands. Sammy is treat-motivated and his playful spirit shines through with Greenies and pig ears. Currently living with two cats, he's learned to coexist peacefully, although he does prefer being the center of attention. He would be happiest as an only dog or with an easy-going canine sibling. While he’s house-trained, he’s accustomed to easy outdoor access and may need gentle reminders to ask for the door instead of rushing to it. Sammy is looking for a home without long flights of stairs, and his cloudy eyes and potential age-related hearing loss are part of his charm. Sammy is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and is waiting for someone to give him a cozy spot on the couch. If you have room in your heart for this gentle gentleman, he’s ready to meet you!
