Meet Koda, the Little Survivor with a Heart Full of Love! Koda is a 20 pound Shih Tzu mix who is around 5 years old. Like so many dogs, he has a story he can't tell us, but the condition he arrived in spoke volumes. His fur was severely matted and soiled, his nails were painfully overgrown, and it was clear he had gone without proper care for a very long time. Despite everything he endured, Koda remains incredibly sweet, affectionate, and eager to love everyone he meets. What amazes us most about Koda is that he never let his difficult past harden his heart. From the moment he arrived, he was kind, trusting, and happy to accept the help he so desperately needed. He was even a perfect gentleman for grooming, baths, and nail trims, soaking up the attention every step of the way. Today, Koda is a happy little shadow who simply wants to be near his people. He loves attention, enjoys every pet he can get, and is happiest when he is part of whatever you're doing. Whether you're watching TV, working around the house, or relaxing on the couch, Koda will gladly settle nearby and keep you company. He doesn't constantly demand attention, but he does enjoy knowing his favorite humans are close. Koda can experience some separation anxiety when left alone and may bark or cry when he realizes he's been left behind. The good news is that he is not destructive, and having a canine companion helps him feel more secure. Because of this, we think he would thrive in a home with another friendly dog or with someone who is home more often than not. At night, Koda sleeps well in a crate, though he would never turn down the opportunity to snuggle up in bed with his people. He is affectionate, loyal, and eager to make up for all the love he missed out on earlier in life. During his vet exam, Koda was found to have a low grade heart murmur. At this time, no medication is needed, and the veterinarian simply recommends monitoring it as he gets older. Koda has every reason to be wary of people, yet he chooses trust. He has every reason to keep his distance, yet he chooses love. Now all he needs is a family willing to give him the safe and comfortable life he has always deserved.
