About Barry Allen

*New video 6/15* Meet Barry Allen, a fearful but gentle boy who was surrendered to the shelter with his sister, Harley Quinn, when their owner became homeless. These two are incredibly fearful and very cautious about their surroundings right now. Their owner described them as very affectionate and lovable with all people including kids! Their owner did mention that they don't do great with other dogs but do very well with each other. Barry Allen and Harley Quinn are now looking for a rescue to pull them to safety from the open intake shelter. Please email lifesaving@acctphilly.org if your rescue can help! I took him outside not sure what to exect, and I found a dog looking for affection who tugged at my heart strings. He was easy to loop, and does everything at his own slow pace - get up, leave his crate, and walk. In the yard, it was like he didn't know what to do. He'd walk a little, and stand. Several times, he'd end up standing on his leash, so I'd coax him forward, move the leash, and he'd walk a little bit. I sat on the bench, called him to come for some hotdogs, which he ate. Then slowly, he put his head in my lap. I patted the bench, he got up, and I sat beside him on the toy box petting him. I'd periodically stop to make sure he wanted more, and he just kept getting closer and closer until his paws were in my lap and he was just getting all my love. And my heart. I'm hoping he feels better once his meds start to work. Per staff 6/14 : ACA's in Iso let me know that Barry Allen broke out of his kennel twice today. He was whining, tail tucked, ears back. He would flinch when one of the ACA's moved near him when he was loose to grab him. They moved him to a crate to see if that would help. When I handed him his lunch in the crate he was at the front, ears to the side, panting, wider eyes, tail low. Per Volunteer 6/10/2026: When I approached his kennel, he was laying down and slowly got up. He easily let me leash him and calmly got out of the kennel. Walks without much pulling on leash, although sometimes randomly zigzags in different directions. When we got out to the play yard, he took some time to sniff around and then slowly came to me and sniffed me out. He would come to me and then give himself some space. I sat on the jungle gym and he liked to climb under it. No interest in toys or treats. Other volunteers brought his sister out and he saw her through the fence. He seemed to perk up and get a bit of a wagging tail when he saw her. After she walked away, he was exit searching more for her. Went inside and yelled quite a bit to get back to the comfort of his kennel. No issues unleashing! Dog meets 6/7/2026: Barry Allen & Coco: Tail came up, low to mid wags, interested in sniffing. Able to move away. Barry Allen & Theodore: Stiff, closed mouth and lip licks when looking at Theodore. Moves away on his own. Behavior Eval 6/7/2026: Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel with wide eyes, ears back and tail down. Took a treat gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Stood still while I leashed. Came right out, minimally pulled on leash. Ears back, wide eyes/darting and tail down walking through the kennels to outside. Pullled hard towards the fence line (exit searching) Sociability: Allowed handling. He was shedding and drooling ( signs of FAS). He did come over and sit in front of me allowed more chest pets. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Coco and Theodore. When meeting Coco who was loose and wiggly from the beginning Barry's tail came out and began to wag. Good greetings, tolerant and moved away on his own. When meeting Theodore he was stiff, mid tail not moving, lip licking and moved away on his own. Return to Kennel: Went right into kennel and I was able to remove leash with hand.
