Hector β Sixty Pounds, Zero Spatial Awareness, Absolutely No Regrets Hector is going to hit you in the knees. This is not a warning so much as a certainty β he arrives at full speed, makes direct contact with your kneecaps, and then looks up at you with an expression of such complete and genuine adoration that you immediately forget what just happened to your legs. He is not sorry. He will absolutely do it again. And somehow, inexplicably, you are going to be fine with that. His foster calls him one of the best dogs she has ever met. We believe her completely and we are putting it in writing. Here is the thing about Hector: once the chaotic entrance energy has been accounted for, what remains is a quiet, devoted, tennis-ball-obsessed roommate who asks for very little and delivers an almost unreasonable amount in return. He does not bark. He does not destroy things. He does not make a peep as long as his three non-negotiables are met β his walk, his fetch, and his snuggles. That is the entire contract. It is a good contract. The fetch situation deserves its own paragraph because Hector approaches it like a professional. Twenty to thirty minutes of intense fetch, two to three times a day. He is an athlete. He has a system. His leash walks, by contrast, are strictly for sniffing and marking every single object he passes β exercise is a separate event and he would appreciate you not conflating the two. He is non-reactive on leash, non-reactive around other dogs and kids, and loves everyone he meets with his entire body and zero volume control. He is crate trained and has proven he can hold it for eight to twelve hours under circumstances dramatic enough that we will not elaborate further except to say that he handled it responsibly and communicated clearly when he needed help. He knows sit, come, kennel, and drop it, and is actively working on leave it and paw. He does have some food guarding that needs patient, consistent guidance β it is workable, it is worth it, and the right adopter will get there with him. He is perfectly suited for an apartment, townhouse, or condo. He is quiet, he is clean, and he is completely unaware that he is sixty pounds, which is somehow part of the charm. Hector is the best dog. His foster said it first. We are just making sure everyone knows. Adoption is $275, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Although we work to potty train all of our dogs, we cannot guarantee full house training before adoption. Regression is a normal part of transitioning to a new home.
