About Rufus
Rufus is sweet, silly, slightly awkward — and absolutely wonderful. He’s the kind of dog who makes everyday life feel lighter, whether he’s soaking up the sunshine, enjoying a long nap, or proudly stopping to inspect (and mark) every tree on a walk. He has mastered the art of balancing relaxed couch potato energy with a happy love for the outdoors, and he does it with a grin that’s impossible not to adore. Rufus is fully house trained and has been gentle and kind with kids. With routine and patience, he has truly blossomed, showing just how affectionate and loyal he can be. Once he trusts you, he becomes a snuggly shadow who lives for cuddles, bum scratches, and simply being near his person — until, of course, he decides it’s time to dramatically flop down somewhere cozy for a well-earned nap. He walks fairly well on leash and continues to improve with consistency, though he may bark at passing trucks and has a strong interest in chasing cats. Rufus can also be leash reactive around unfamiliar dogs, so he would do best either as an only pet or in a home with a small dog and/or a female dog, where introductions can be handled thoughtfully. With the right guidance, his intelligence and willingness to learn truly shine. Rufus would thrive in a home where someone is around often — a work-from-home setup would be ideal — and having a yard to explore would make him incredibly happy. He loves being outside and appreciates a lifestyle that balances calm companionship with gentle adventure. Rufus is a true gem: loyal, tender-hearted, and endlessly lovable. His foster says they would keep him if their travel schedule allowed it, which speaks volumes about the kind of dog he is. If you’re looking for a companion who will make you laugh every day, nap at your feet, and stand by your side through it all, Rufus is patiently waiting to meet you. Adoption is $275, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Although we work to potty train all of our dogs, we cannot guarantee full house training before adoption. Regression is a normal part of transitioning to a new home.
