Now, on to the start of the show! She is the PERFECT HOUSE HIPPO. Pure is deaf, but has done amazing with hand signals. Very food motivated, but also gentle when it comes to taking treats. She IS a chewer- and enjoys heavy duty toys. She really enjoys a peanut butter filled kong that has been in the freezer for a day. Never had an accident in the house and uses the dog door. She has yet to meet a stranger and greets everyone with a wagging tail and classic pitty smile. We have been working on crate training, she knows the sign for "kennel" and goes in without hesitation. She will nap in the crate by choice and we are working on being ok with longer periods in there with the door closed. Pure is very laid-back to the point where she doesn't respond to vibrations if you are trying to get her attention. She is AMAZING with the foster's young child. That being said, there has never been any food aggression, resource guarding (directed towards humans), boundary aggression, or unmanageable prey drive (she loves to chase skinks but I have yet to meet a dog who doesn't). She walks OK on a leash. Loves the water and will get in the shower with you if you let her. She has done great for baths and nail trims. Her last home had cats and it has been reported that she was fine with them. Adoption Process you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match. The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks. The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you're ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150.
