About Bunsen

Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer foster home based rescue organization. MEET BUNSEN! Bunsen is an energetic, affectionate 5-year-old male pug who began his journey in California where he spent a very short time with Pug Nation before traveling all the way to New England in search of his forever home. Since arriving in foster care, this joyful boy has been settling in beautifully alongside his pug foster brother. Described by his foster family as loyal, playful, adaptable, friendly, and curious, Bunsen is loving foster life. He enjoys wooded hikes, toy time, chewing on bully sticks, and—most of all—snuggling up with his people. Bunsen (aka Bunny) does well on leash, rides calmly in the car, and is crate trained. He spends a few hours in his crate when his foster is out and does very well with this setup. In fact, he’s much calmer crated than when left in a small room, where he can become anxious and a bit destructive. He is still working on his potty manners and has been wearing a belly band since arrival. Bunsen was recently neutered, and with time, consistency, and routine, we expect continued improvement from this gentle velcro guy. He may occasionally engage in playful humping with other dogs, but this behavior is easily redirected. Bunsen currently lives with a confident cat who stands their ground. While he does fine in this situation, a less assertive feline might be chased. We understand that he slept with a cat in his original home. He has not yet been around children in New England; however, older, dog-savvy children would likely do well with him. Bunsen loves meeting new people and is very friendly. His foster has noticed that he may cower if a hand comes over his head (such as when putting on a harness), and loud noises can sometimes startle him. As his confidence grows, we’re hopeful these sensitivities will fade into the past. He’s still learning basic commands, but Bunsen is eager to please and highly motivated by praise and food—making him a great candidate for continued positive training. He’s been wonderful for all things pug care, including nails, grooming, and wrinkle/fold cleaning. Healthwise, Bunsen is in good shape. He has a history of an eye injury before arriving in rescue, but that has resolved and his vision, mobility and hearing are great. He will just need the typical pug maintenance, flea tick and heartworm prevention and annual vet visits. In true pug fashion, Bunsen thrives on attention and does an adorable little wiggle whenever you talk to him. From Bunsen’s foster mom: “He would adore a home with a human (or several humans) who are around as much as possible and who don’t mind a pug in their personal space 24/7. If you were measuring his level of velcro-ness, ("velcrosity", if you were) he would be Gorilla Max Strength Construction Adhesive. He needs to be close to you.” “He enjoys walking (and needs it to burn off some of his energy), but it’s less about the walk and more about being with his person. He enjoys chewing, so having safe, fun chew options is important.” “What would make Bunsen happiest is having patient, fun human buddies who want to hang out with him. Everything else is secondary.” ADOPTION FEE: $850.00 ~ $600.00 based on age plus $250.00 domestic travel fee Requirements for Adoption Fenced yard preferred but not required Could be an only dog if the family is home, often (staggered shifts) or provides alternative play and enrichment (i.e.; doggie day care or dog walker) Would enjoy a playful canine companion Confident cat companions are okay Children age 8 and up Daily exercise consisting of two walks per day or one longer walk A home stocked with lots of toys and safe chew bones Commitment to ongoing medical care, including annual veterinary visits and monthly preventatives If you’re looking for a devoted, loving companion who will happily be your shadow, Bunsen may be your perfect match. ❤ï ̧ If you are interested in adopting, your home situation MUST meet this criteria: A vet reference check, dog walker check (if applicable), landlord check (if applicable), a phone interview and home visit will be conducted prior to approval.
