Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer foster home based rescue organization. Shiner (Momma) & Pretty Girl — A Bonded Senior Pair Looking for a Soft Landing Where are our senior lovers? We are hoping for someone with a true rescuers heart to step up for this senior Mother and Daughter pair. Shiner 14, lovingly known as Momma , she doesn't hear anyway, is a very sweet little lady who came into rescue with her daughter, Pretty Girl 12 after their previous owner went into hospice care. They are deeply bonded and rely on each other for comfort and confidence. We are seeking a soft landing where Shiner can spend the rest of her days continuing to love on her girl . Momma gets along wonderfully with her pug foster siblings and coexists peacefully with other animals once she has time to adjust. She has some arthritis and stiffness, which makes moving around difficult at times. She cannot do stairs on her own and will need a one‑level home or someone willing to carry her up and down. Because she can’t always get where she needs to go without help, we’re looking for a home where someone is present and able to give her the gentle support she needs. Pretty Girl, at 12, is just as sweet — a soft, loyal shadow who seeks out Momma for reassurance. At around 23 pounds, she could use a little help shedding a few pounds, which will likely make moving around easier for her. She was nervous at first, but she has blossomed beautifully in her foster home. She gets along well with her pug foster siblings and enjoys being part of the household. Like her mom, she has arthritis and cannot do stairs, so she will also need a one‑level home or someone who can carry her when needed. A calm home with someone around often will help her feel secure and supported. Together, Momma and Pretty Girl are a mellow, affectionate senior duo with so much love left to give. They thrive in a peaceful home where their people understand their needs, respect their slower pace, and appreciate the quiet companionship that only senior dogs can offer. They are loyal, gentle, and deeply grateful for kindness — and they’re ready to spend their golden years with a family who will cherish both of them together. COMPATIBILITY Momma and Pretty Girl depend on each other emotionally and find comfort in staying side by side. Even when laying in a pile with the rest of the foster grumble, they will always be lying next to one another. They have a timid nature at first meeting and need a family who understands their pace and gives them time to feel safe. Once they settle in, they will absolutely cover you in kisses. They are very laid‑back, enjoy long naps, and happily snuggle with other pugs. They aren’t picky about where they sleep — a bed, a couch, or a pile of comfy pillows all work for these ladies. They get along well with their pug and bird foster siblings. ACTIVITY LEVEL Momma is a mellow senior who prefers a slow, easy pace. Stiff upon rising, she manages to make it down the hall to her foster Mom's office. She is actually happiest taking a cozy nap in a stroller while enjoying some fresh air. With time and gentle support, she may loosen up a bit, but she will need a family who understands her mobility limitations and is happy to let her relax rather than expecting long walks. Pretty Girl can walk alongside the stroller. at first she got winded with too much activity, but she has made some slow progress towards improving her stamina with regular easy walks. Both girls are incredibly loving and will happily kiss your whole face. They adore couch time, TV time, and curling up next to you with a good book. They love to spoon and sleep in bed with their people, so we hope that won’t be a problem. HEALTH Momma and Pretty Girl had some signs of neglect when coming into rescue. They came from a loving home where in the end their owner became ill and sadly could not care for them. Momma will need someone who can lift her to go outdoors and help express her bladder and bowels since she cannot go on her own. Her foster mom is doing this 3-4 times a day for her bladder, and she usually does one BM daily. She is very good for these procedures, and the urine comes easily right onto a pee pad. Something her foster mom can teach any future adopter. These issues are believed to be related to disc disease. She is currently on some NSAID medications to see if she shows any improvement. Momma also has some vision issues due to pigmenting keratosis and requires daily eye cleaning and eye medication to keep her comfortable. Momma also takes probiotic to help keep her digestive tract in balance. Despite her health issues, Momma is a happy and tender girl. Grateful for every loving touch and happy to be with her Pretty Girl. Pretty Girl is a bit overweight and will need a family who can help her manage her weight so she can move with more ease. Beyond that, she is a healthy senior. Both girls have completed a course of antibiotics for Lyme Disease. Both girls arrived with no medical history and will need to be evaluated before we can provide additional detail. PERSONALITY Momma and Pretty Girl are incredibly sweet. New people and unfamiliar places make them anxious at first, but once they feel safe, they settle in beautifully. They have relaxed significantly and settled in beautifully in their foster home. It’s clear they may not have received all the attention they needed later in life, but with patience and kindness, they will blossom. Their new family will need to help with daily care and give the girls the reassurance they deserve.
