About Elroyhospice

We got lots of sad news this week. 😔 Taking in so many seniors, we are used to it. But 3 of our newest SWEETEST seniors all had some very disappointing test results this week and are looking for hospice placements for whatever time they have left. While we are sad to know what is coming, dogs cope much better with a terminal diagnosis. They don’t worry about the future. They only know if they feel comfortable, happy, safe, and loved in the moment. And right now these special dogs all do. They are looking for homes that will help them enjoy each day as long as they are still happy and comfortable- and maybe they will even help you enjoy and appreciate each day just a little bit more too! They are all dog-friendly and would be happy in multipet homes (but not a requirement). While we can’t predict how much time they have, we are aiming for quality over quantity… but have had many dogs with grim prognosis’s far outlive expectations. Once settled in a loving home, they want to keep going as long as possible! Email njwoof@cs.com to meet any of these special dogs in Northern NJ: Elroy the schnauzer! This dignified handsome senior gentleman was abandoned and never reclaimed… dumped at the time he most needed his people. What looks like a small harmless lump in his back end is actually an aggressive anal gland carcinoma, too large and invasive at this point to be removed. He has some other possible lesions elsewhere as well and a testicular tumor from never having been neutered, but the butt tumor will probably cause issues first and eventually leave him unable to go to the bathroom. Right now he’s eating well and doesn’t know anything is wrong at all, and deserves whatever quality time he can get with palliative care. Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
