About Zito

Make their next chapter their best one yet. Zito is a sweet two-year-old Border Collie who is gently learning about the world after coming from a challenging past. Weighing about 35 pounds, this nimble and petite boy is adjusting to life in a home, acclimating bit by bit to new sights and sounds. While he’s quite shy and unfamiliar with many life experiences, Zito is adopting basic house manners and growing more comfortable with everyday noises. Like many Border Collies, he’s a clever problem solver, sometimes offering a polite sit for treats and other times resorting to counter surfing in pursuit of tasty rewards. After just two weeks in foster care, Zito is beginning to understand that humans offer much more than food—he enjoys quiet cuddles and seeks out companionship when people relax on the couch. Zito currently lives peacefully with two older female dogs, taking on a submissive role and interacting gently. While not interested in games like fetch, he will sometimes enjoy a squeaky toy for a few moments, and shows no herding behaviors. In the house, Zito is low energy and content to lounge wherever you are, though his world is expanding gradually through short neighborhood walks. He’s learning to handle the many new sensations of suburban life at his own pace. As a sensitive dog with little exposure to people, Zito adapts best to quiet, patient introductions. He tends to approach new faces slowly, from the side or behind, and should never be rushed. Zito has not met children or cats, but would likely find a calm, adult home most comfortable. He is most comfortable with soft-voiced, reward-based guidance and will need confidence-boosting, positive training as he continues to adjust to home life. Zito is crate trained and finds his kennel a reliable safe haven, happily retreating there for naps or reassurance. He is almost fully house trained, with only a few minor incidents early on in foster care. If you can offer a quiet, supportive environment and have experience with shy or fearful dogs, Zito could be the perfect companion to bond with and help flourish. He is ready for someone patient who will take things at his pace and celebrate every step in his journey. They are ready to love you; are you ready to apply?
