About Afton
Afton is a 2.5-year-old retriever-shepherd-hound blend with a short golden coat and plenty of character. Fully grown at about 55 pounds, he’s an unusually well-mannered, food-motivated guy who stays happy and eager to please. Training him is straightforward as long as you have some patience—his hound streak comes with just a bit of stubbornness, but it’s mild, and he’s a fast learner. Afton has a gentle, old-soul vibe and a knack for bringing out smiles and laughter, even on rough days. He thrives in a busy, affectionate household, and his cheerful, outgoing personality meshes well with just about everyone. Afton gets along with dogs of all ages and sizes, and he’s fine with cats, rabbits, turtles, and can learn to behave respectfully around chickens, ducks, goats, and more. He prefers not to be an only dog and will do best in a home with another canine companion. He’s house and crate trained, walks well on leash, has decent recall, and happily joins group walks or play sessions. Though energetic, he’s never hyper—just lively and good-natured. A fenced yard is preferred, and he politely respects a 3-foot fence. Afton’s an easygoing, nurturing family dog who can suit any active, loving home. He’s the type you could take to a child’s birthday party without worry. He’s fully neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. Start your journey together! Apply now.
