I'm Ginger, a 41-pound mixed breed with a gentle heart and a playful spirit that really shines once I feel safe. When I first arrived, I was extremely scared of everything and everyone, but with time, patience, and kindness, I've started to open up and learn that the world isn't so scary after all. I form strong bonds with my person pretty quickly, and once I trust you, I become the sweetest girl - I even smile with my teeth when I'm happy! Playing fetch is my absolute favorite thing, and I could chase a tennis ball all day long. Sometimes I'll rumble or play-growl if I have the ball and you try to grab it, but don't worry - I love the game and will happily drop it or toss it back toward you so we can keep playing. I'm a very active dog who needs a medium-to-high activity home with plenty of space to run and enjoy big games of fetch in wide open areas. Because I can still be nervous, I may need more than one visit before adoption so we can make sure everyone feels comfortable, and I'll need to meet everyone who lives in the home too. Moving into a new environment might make me feel scared again at first, and I may shut down while I adjust, but patience, space, and understanding help me bounce back. I do best with adopters who feel confident working with a sensitive dog, because I tend to gain confidence from my person and look to them for reassurance. My adoption fee of $225+tax covers the cost of my care and stay here at the humane society. All Pennington County residents must also pay an additional $8 licensing fee at time of adoption.
