About Garth
This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally. **Please read Garth's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application at the end. Thank you!** Meet Garth, a 6-7-month-old Lab / German Shepherd mix, weighing 30 pounds (as of 4/3/26). You've heard of Darth Vader, well, this guy goes by Garth Vader, hailing from a land far far away (Tennessee). Garth was found as a stray with a broken glass jar around his neck. As a result, he has slight scaring under his chin. But this is no villain origin story! This sweet boy deserves the best home in the galaxy after going through so much hardship. Garth is a truly handsome young boy with a soft and gentle spirit. He may be a little shy when he first meets new people, but if you give him a little time, you’ll see just how affectionate and friendly he really is! He won't even care that you haven't showered or used deodorant for days! He's just happy to be loved and cared for by the sweetest family. Once he feels safe, his kind nature shines through in the most heartwarming way through his kisses and cuddles. Doesn't that sound lovely? We think so! Garth gets along with other dogs and was gentle with a 2-year-old child, so he should be gentle with the rowdier kiddos too. We're not sure if he's met cats yet, but if he has, he's sure to tell us in a burst of "meows." Did we mention he's also multilingual? He speaks cat, cow, and fish! Because of his rough start, Garth will need extra love and patience since he's still adjusting to crates and walking with leashes. He's currently inside at his foster's everyday with rotating time outside. He hasn't had an accident in the house and hopes to keep up that streak! Garth is still growing into the amazing dog he’s meant to be. This young Jedi is going to be something special, both in looks and in loyalty! With a patient, loving home to help build his confidence, Garth will blossom into a devoted companion and lifelong best friend. If you're looking for the Chewbacca to your Han Solo, Garth is the boy for you! All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be. To adopt or learn more about Garth, you must fill out an adoption application. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works. Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
