About Major

This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally. **Please read Major's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application at the end. Thank you!** Meet Major, a 7-year-old Black Lab mix, weighing 60 pounds (as of 2/22/26). This commander was found wandering the streets of Tennessee as a stray. In fact, his face and ears have a story to tell. The little white spots on his face are presumed to be old scars and one of his ears is missing a large chunk from it. We don't know what this sweet boy went through on the streets but he is resilient and deserves the best fur-ever home! Major is the kind of dog that should have his own movie because of how he's overcome adversity at every turn! Before he arrived at his foster's, Major had been living in an outside kennel and while inside living was an adjustment for him, he has since gained more and more confidence. In fact, his fosters let him stay loose in their home when they're gone, because he's proven to be the perfect dog! He is completely house trained and doesn't touch anything which is so considerate! All you gotta do is give him a comfy dog bed to lounge in and he's happy to stay there all day while he ponders the meaning of life. Major is great with kids and is a friend to all animals. He doesn't even want to run after cats! He also gets along with dogs of all ages and sizes, but if a teenage dog gets too rough, this old timer will gently warn him to "stand down, soldier!" Major crates great and has learned to leash well but might throw a little fit every once in a while when the slip leash pulls on him, but like a good soldier, he continues on. While Major does get nervous in new situations (because of his rough start), he hopes his future family has patience as he adjusts to your home. He'll be sure to handle it well. Major's looking for an amazing home that will not only love him but spoil him as well because this guy truly deserves it. What are you waiting for? Bring Major home today! All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be. To adopt or learn more about Major, you must fill out an adoption application. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works. Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted. To learn more about our *shelterless* rescue, adoption fees, and procedures, review the list of Frequently Asked Questions on our website at WWW.GDRNE.COM.
