About Bond
Meet Bond, a very sweet 10-month-old yellow Labrador Retriever looking for his loving forever home. Bond has been raised in our service dog training program and has learned many of his basic skills: sit, down, wait, here (hand target), let’s go, kennel, and car. He is crate-trained and travels well. Bond is described as sweet, calm, patient, a thinker, cuddly, and affectionate. Bond, unfortunately, cannot remain in our training program due to a diagnosis of hip dysplasia, although he is not experiencing any issues at this time. What does this mean? He will have a moderate risk of developing OA at a younger-than-average age. He will require a family that will provide him with what he needs to postpone those issues and continue to live a robust life, such as supplements, proper weight management, and plenty of appropriate exercise to maintain good muscle tone to support his joints (lots of walks/hikes, swimming). Bond has gotten pretty good at his leash walking. He may like to sniff and be interested in his surroundings and may get distracted by other dogs, deer, or other animals. Bond enjoys other dogs and would be fine with another appropriate dog in the home. He is young and can get amped up, so it will be important that any dog interactions/play are monitored and appropriate for maintaining his hip health. A calm, mature dog would be a good match. Bond is earning freedom in the home, but will require supervision. He enjoys his toys, especially sturdy toys that can withstand his puppy chewing like Nylabones, Kongs, etc. Bond is still young and learning. He would like a family that will provide him with structure/routine, continued training, have plenty of time to interact with him, and provide him with mental stimulation, lots of long walks/hikes, as well as other appropriate physical exercise. Bond’s adoption fee is $1,500. If you think that he sounds like a good match for you, please send an email to info@summitdogs.org (no phone calls, please) to request an application or ask questions.
