About Ginger
Ginger came in with a severe neck injury from a collar that was too tight, and fear made her freeze up—she let herself be carried because walking was simply too much. Care, time, and patient volunteers have helped Ginger begin to heal inside and out. She’s still anxious, especially on leash, and will try to run if overwhelmed, but every day she grows braver. Ginger is gentle to people and respectful with other dogs; she’s at her best when paired with calm canine companions, and she often finds her courage by following their lead. In her foster home, Ginger warmed up within hours and eventually followed her fosters around, accepting gentle pets. She loves outdoor adventures, relaxing in quiet company and exploring the woods—her curiosity shines when she’s among nature and other dogs. Toys and treats aren’t really her thing yet, but she’s house trained and behaves well solo. Ginger is an escape risk due to fear, so secure fencing and a gentle approach are musts. She rarely barks, does well with dogs of all sizes, and seems to have little to no prey drive. With strangers she takes time—older children who respect her pace are fine, but little ones are too much for her now. If you have a peaceful home, a friendly dog, and a soft spot for gentle souls, Ginger is ready to blossom with the right person by her side. They are waiting with paws crossed! Apply now!

Questions about Ginger
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Ginger, an Akita/mixed breed, will do best in a calm home with secure fencing and patient people. These breeds tend to thrive in quieter suburban or rural settings where they have space to decompress.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Akita mixes like Ginger appreciate a large, safely enclosed yard or frequent outdoor outings. She enjoys time outdoors, especially exploring with canine friends, but should always be supervised due to her flight risk when anxious.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Akitas and their mixes are typically best with older, respectful children. Ginger's fearful nature means she isn't suited for homes with young kids, but older kids who understand her needs can do well.
