Simon is an adorable, 11 year old, 17lb Chihuahua / Red Heeler mix. He may be small like a Chihuahua, but he looks like a tiny Red Heeler… like a cattle dog that accidentally stepped in front of a shrink ray. Simon’s story is a sad one. He was relinquished to a small shelter in New Mexico after his owners moved and, unbelievably, decided they “didn’t want to lug him along.” Poor Simon understandably arrived confused and unsure of what was happening. He wasn’t terrified, just quietly processing the big change, with that “what the heck is going on and where am I?” expression that breaks your heart. Simon made his way to Colorado in mid-February and started out in a foster home withOUT another dog. While he settled in and was very sweet, he stayed pretty quiet and reserved. Once we moved him to a foster home that had another dog, everything changed. Having a canine buddy around clearly makes Simon feel more confident and comfortable. His personality blossomed almost immediately, and he warmed up much faster. Because of this, Simon will need a home with another friendly dog to help him feel secure and happy. Simon's foster let us know that he is potty trained, which isn't surprising since he came from a home (not the streets). Simon is a gentle, sweet senior guy who just wants a calm home, a cozy place to nap, and a dog friend to keep him company. He’s the kind of dog who bonds with his people and will be a loyal little shadow once he feels safe. After everything he’s been through, Simon deserves a family who will never leave him behind again. Simon has a cottony soft coat that is currently shelter - sad. He will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths / brushing and excellent nutrition including 5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement for great health, a cottony-soft coat and a long, very healthy life. Farfel's Rescue has made the decision that we'd like to see Simon in a home with loving and devoted retirees that spends lots of time at home...or enjoy taking their furry best friend along. A younger individual or couple that works from a home-based office would also be a good choice for this sweet guy too. Simon is available for adoption now.
