About Parka
FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks! --- Meet Parka - he and his littermates were part of an oops litter. The family couldn't keep them and by the time they came to us as older puppies. Mommy is a long haired chihuahua. We are confused by the DNA we did on his brother - and wonder if there were 2 dads. His brother and sister had a very different 'shepherd' look than Parka and his sister Beanie. DNA said they were Chihuahua / Shepherd, but their continued chihuahua look and size, we are not sure what to think. Parka is the largest in the litter - about 15# at 9 months old. We still think he will be in the 25# range, mommy is 20#. He's also got longer legs and taller than his siblings. Parka is currently in a foster home, learning all things puppy - crate training, leash walking and more. Honestly - he's Rocking this foster thing. He's meeting all kinds of human and dog friends! Parka appears to be housebroken, but will likely need reminders in her new home. And he has the silliest curly black whiskers - very unique. His foster mom said: "Parka had a Fun day today. JackPot and Olive helped at training class. Afterwards we got to run around their fenced acreage. Parka did great, ran around but also checked in. Then we did a nice walk at Pac Rim Institute which is always full of new smells and noises. I think I’ve only heard Parka bark once which is shocking considering how much our dogs bark. He’s sort of chill." Once settled in, he's pretty silly and sweet. He loves to play with the resident dogs and would enjoy another dog in the home. He's having so many adventures with his foster pack! This puppy is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated. Puppies are good with dogs, cats, kids and more. Being a puppy, they will need lots of training, including housebreaking. Remember, puppies are cute, but they have sharp teeth, need to be fed 3 times a day and poop... a lot! The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline for transitioning a rescue dog into its new home and helping it to settle in. It suggests that the first three days should be used for adjusting to its new surroundings, the next three weeks for training and bonding, and the first three months for continued socialization and training. Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption. Adoptions typically take place in Stanwood. Adoption fee is $475. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible. Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home. Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your puppy.
