About Starla
She’s definitely not the cutest looking dog, or the youngest, or the most housebroken (or housebroken at all) but little Starla is a sweet little gem. She’s back on the market and looking for an understanding home in her senior years. This 13 year old Shih Tzu/yorkie mix has been passed around a lot but is a lovable cuddly girl who still has some spunk. She’s blind in one eye and has cherry eyes that have been there her whole life and aren’t causing an issue and are more cosmetic at this point… it kind of makes her look demonic with glowing eyes depending on how the light hits her but we promise she’s no devil dog. And she barely has any teeth anyway. Starla does fine living with other gentle little dogs and mostly wants to be cuddled on your lap. She does need a home with a fenced yard as she refused to go to the bathroom on leash walks in her previous home, and does much better following other dogs out into a yard. She hates crates and being confined and gets more anxious/has more accidents when she is locked up, and does best loose with wee wee pads and sleeping in bed next to her person. But if housebreaking is a dealbreaker she’s not the one for you and doesn’t deserve to get bounced around again for that. Overall she’s in great health for a little old lady and we are hoping she will have several years to enjoy in her forever home. She is non-shedding, about 11lbs, spayed and updated on shots. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet senior Starla in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
