About October

October (ACCT-A-243147) is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due lack of space and length of space as well as medical concerns. October must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER, EXPERIENCED LONG TERM FOSTER or RESCUE PARTNER by Friday, March 13th, 2026 at 10AM. Should Belina's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. October is a sweet and charming dog who is looking for her forever home. Found as a stray as only a year old, she's perfect for someone looking for a "low rider" of a dog. The finder noted she was friendly, cuddly, scared and playful, but their dog was not good with other dogs so they couldn't keep her. October can be a little shy at first but once she gets to know you, she's incredibly loving and affectionate. She enjoys gentle pets and scratches and will lean into you for more! She's had positive dog interactions as well. She walks nicely on a leash and is reported as very mild-mannered, though she can be a bit unsure around new people and is more unsure around men. A calm and patient adopter who can give her time to adjust would be ideal. Unfortunately, October was noted to have several lesions and while her culture came back inconclusive, it is strongly suspected that she has ringworm. She has begun treatment but needs to find a rescue that can continue treatment in the form of pills once a day until March 22nd. Ringworm is not actually a worm, but rather a fungal infection and similar to athlete's foot. Most dogs recover While it can spread to both people and dogs, with basic hygiene and treatment, the risk can be managed and most infections resolve without complications. October just needs to take her medicine daily. Usually a specific type of bath also helps, but her lesions are on her face so that isn't realistic. In a home environment, it should be frequently vacuumed, bedding washed and surfaces cleaned to minimize risk of spread While it all sounds like a lot, it's only a few weeks more of treatment that October needs and she's such a sweetheart who is hoping she'll find that special someone able to help her so she can then go find her forever home! Videos: October and Manny: https://youtu.be/gu9FvasG9Tk Additional Notes: 03/01/2026: Per volunteer 2/28 I took October out today and this past Thursday and he is so sweet. Very mild mannered, loved being pet, walked nicely in the leash 02/21/2026: Significant separation anxiety when locked in her kennel at night at partner pet store. She is coming out of her shell but becomes very deeply attached to staff. 02/21/2026: Good evening! Today and yesterday I observed that October's breathing has occasionally included rasping and coughing sounds. She is taking doxycycline for a possible URI, but tonight during dinner she started choking slightly and gagging, working really hard to clear her throat. She eventually seemed successful, but hesitated to drink more water until it cleared. She seems ok now, but I wanted to report this for monitoring. Additionally, she sleeps most of the day when no one is in the room with her. When they come up, she is incredibly wiggly and energetic, displaying plenty of energy on walks, but becomes very anxious at night and screams in her kennel. 02/16/2026: Behavior eval 2/15/2026:Kennel presentation: When I approached, October was laying down in her kennel. She looked at me with soft eyes and remained laying down. I opened the kennel and easily leashed her. Leash Skills: She does not pull on leash. Sociability: Two volunteers were present, one male and one female. In the play yard, October walked around a lot. If I got down on her level with hotdogs in hand, she would approach me and take them from me. She gives out little snorts when eating and takes treats gently. However, she was also vocal when approached while she was walking around on her own. She would whine and create distance. Sometimes grumbles were heard. She did give out a hard growl towards the male volunteer when he tried initiating play. After a few minutes, the male volunteer left and she sat down next to me. I was able to pet her easily all over, making sure to do a lot of consent checks, and she remained by me with a loose body, leaning in for scratches. The male volunteer came back and she began to whine again at him and followed his movement but remained by my side. Play & Toys: Did not chase any toys or engage in play. Dog interaction (must be on video if meeting face-to-face): Saw a dog at a distance and remained loose. Returning to kennel: No issues, went right in and allowed me to unleash and give her more pets. Color level: Experienced gold Recommendations: I think it would be a good idea to do more investigating of her warning signs and if there is a preference for women. She did not engage in any vocalizations with a female volunteer following her evaluation. Whining and growls were the primary reason for experienced gold, so might want to re-evaluate at some point! 02/16/2026: October and Manny: https://youtu.be/gu9FvasG9Tk 02/16/2026: Per volunteer 02/15/2026: did an adoption meet with October. Approaching her kennel she was very neutral, with soft eyes and her ears down. I had no issues leashing her and she hopped out of her kennel with no issues. Outside she seemed to be housebroken or trying to stay housebroken. When we were outside a male approached us and she did growl at him, and we walked away from him. During the meet she was very avoidant of both the male and female. She was neutral body, with neutral eyes, ears pinned back, and her tail neutral. She would become a little tense when handling was made and then she would walk away. The potential adopters offered her treats which she took hesitantly. She exit searched throughout the room and would paw at the door to go out. Returning her to kennel I had no issues. In the room she did not growl at the potential adopters.
